Amazingly you guys can still finish 8th despite how poor you have been this season.

You don’t need to tell us that!

Thanks Dunge - these posts are even more helpful when I wasn’t at the game.

Sounds like you agree with my perception of the game which was that we won because we just had too much individual quality for Norwich rather than looking like a cohesive team?

Good to see Vardy on the scoresheet and I think Rodgers has asked him to be more aggressive reading between the lines (on playing on the last as Vardy does).

Still feels a bit meh doesn’t it. At least we’re safe and can start planning for a summer to sort this decline out.

Mersey - I thought last night was two seasons in a microcosm.

The first half was us: Too many touches, not moving the ball fast enough, get hit on the break, should have been behind at half time.

The second half was them: Concede a goal and then collapse.

We were a lot better in the second half; perhaps the team needed reminding that the opposition had already been relegated and were not Barcelona. But really the play just improved and got a lot quicker, started asking them some proper questions. The first goal was unfortunate for them but it was coming in some form. After that, Norwich never looked like recovering.

So it was cohesive play, but only second half. First half was Puelball.

One more thing - I’ve alluded to it in my ratings, but yesterday showed the importance of a defensive midfielder for teams on the attack. My rating of 6 for Mendy is arguably harsh. It comes from the fact that he didn’t do much aside from play short passes, but his presence gave Tielemans, KDH, Maddison and Barnes more freedom to play quicker, riskier football knowing that they had some cover behind them.

There’s always a temptation to look at a lineup like our starting one and go “that’s attacking”. True, but it lacked balance.

It also took us until 3 Games to go to be safe from Relegation!

Not bad for nearly Rodgers Best Ever Season

Plaudits to Norwich, they went toe to toe with us and could have easily won the match, it gave their fans something to sing for, could they swap Leagues again at the next Season while Fulham go the other way?

Not like the negative nelly numpty we have in charge.

The first half had the penetration of Peter Andre.

The second half had the penetration of Jamie Vardy

Hmm. Although 3-0 sounds like a convincing scoreline it was far from a dominant display. There was plenty of ponderous Puelball on show and it took a very fortunate goal to finally beat Gunn and precipitate the inevitable collapse of a team with brittle confidence.

That we went in at 0-0 at halftime was more due to outstanding displays from the keepers rather than lack of effort on goal, Kasper did a worldy double save and Gunn somehow stopped a ball destined for the back of the net to Lookman's astonishment.

I suspect we were watching a poor team play a dreadful team.

I was puzzled by the removal of an attacking player for a defensive one, it seemed like a retrograde step to me but proved not to be the case as Dunge explained. I suppose that's why Brendan gets paid the big bucks but it begs the question as to why he didn't field a balanced formation in the first place?

Tilly had his best game for some time, perhaps he's realised if he wants his dream move to a 'big' club he'll have to produce a bit more on the pitch?

I wouldn't disagree with any ratings Dunge, nor the MoM. Vardy still manages to look dangerous at 35, hopefully that's a good sign that we may get another year or two out of him.

It may seem strange to say this with a 3-0 result, but (I agree with TB here) Norwich could easily have won - probably should have won - the match. Despite us dominating possession again, they had the better chances in the first half, particularly one where Pukki just had Kasper to beat and ended up hitting the post; if that had gone in just before half time we'd have struggled on the pitch and in the stands.

Which brings me to my final point, what happened last night, there were a lot of empty seats at the star of the match, by the end the stadium was at best half full? Was that some sort of protest?

No protest; just the result of it being a nothing match on a school night. Some people I know didn't attend, as much as anything because they had no enthusiasm for it after last week and this season.

If Rodgers stays in charge I won’t be renewing our 3 Memberships, still, won’t need them as getting tickets is so easy now. 😉

None of which explains why TB posted that in response to the Peter Andre tangent, however.

At least TB is indicating they will still go to matches rather than changing support to another team (Forest anyone?)!

Sorry Dunge - got waylaid today but want to respond to your post and this thread which I think has been excellent.

Balance is the word I’ve been repeating a lot recently. I’ve said many times we have too many of our best players playing below themselves because the balance is wrong. Assuming Tielemans leaves in the summer we must find a way of getting Maddison creating and more central, our strikers with actual service and our wing forwards more dangerous.

During PuelRodgersBall that’s not happening right now.
