On 4 August 2020, Roofe signed for Rangers, on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee, reported to be £4.5 million.

I'd have focused on undisclosed myself if I wanted to argue it

i prob could but that has zero relevance in the argument of rangers dont know how to spend their money and that the europa league squad we have costs 30m

Barisic was £2 million.

Roofe was £4.5 million, and Helander was in your squad before as well. He was about £3 million.

That’s another £6 million…
----------------------------------------------------------------------
helander wasnt part of the europa squad, and yes croatian international barisic cost 2m. and roofe didnt cost 4.5m
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Helander played both games against Alashkert.

Haven’t seen anywhere quite Roofe at £3.5 million, and don’t remember that as the figure.

Hagi was also reported at £3 million, and you paid compensation for Aribo and Bassey. That’s another £1 million added to your total.

That’s only the £7 million you’re out then.

so just to be clear - we are both happy with our respective seasons - regardless of outcome ?

And we both stand to make loadsa money (in a Scottish league context)

So we now argue who MIGHT make the most money

Celtics net spend this season has been -£10m (as in transfer income has been £10m higher than transfer expenditure).

It’s ridiculous to look at net spend given where Rangers from a few years ago. You started from a position of strength. Celtic have spent as much this season as Rangers have in 3 seasons

Rangers have spent a bit over £30 million in the first 3 seasons under Gerrard.

Celtic spent about £22-23 million over the last 2 transfer windows.

Celtic have sold as much talent last year as Rangers have in their history.

How far back do you want to go to plead historical circumstances affecting things? Without EBTs maybe a lot changes, eh?

Well Gerrard came in almost 4 years ago, and Edouard was at Celtic for 4 years, so you probably go back 4 years.

Since rangers have been in the SPFL, their net spend is c£40m higher than Celtic’s, and at least £30m higher than any other club in the SPFL.

It is ridiculous to look at gross spend in isolation. Hibs have spent half a million more than hearts this season, but hearts are much higher than them. True, but it doesn’t account for Hibs selling Martin Boyle, which had had a huge impact on their ability to score goals. Hibs net spend is c£2m lower than hearts.

Genuine question about these figures....is this just transfer net spend we are talking about here?

Joy 😕 I assume it's for the home player ratio and if its on reduced terms so be it, but we need another winger https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1524797179180814336?t=WENW78Z6G8ClGIuUt-tXSQ&s=19

Eddy was a loan player in 17/18 season I think. Tierney a home grown talent who was developed at the club (nearly ruined by some of the “play thru ra pain” rubbish mind you) and the others you mention we have developed. Patterson aside rangers have yet to do that. Hence, the significant disparity in net spend.

"It is ridiculous to look at gross spend in isolation."

Why's that like?

Got one club that's not moved from the top of Scottish Football for a decade...and a club that basically lost all of its most valuable player assets, had to reset and build itself up from the third division, a club that was always going to speculate to accumulate for a period in order to get back to a good operating level

Looking a gross spend in isolation is not ridiculous in that situation...saying as much only suits a particular agenda

Let's really look at things here then using Transfermarkt seeing as others have been quoting figures from there

In 17/18, the market value of Celtics squad was £69.7m

Since then, Celtic have spent £69m, but recouped £103m, so have made a net profit on transfers of £34m

As it stands, Celtic's squad is valued at £71.2m

So Celtic have brought in £34m, and the value of their squad has went up by about £1.5m, so in total that's a £35.5m increase in revenue/squad value

The Rangers squad in 17/18 was valued at a rather paltry £23.5m

Since then, we have spent £33m on transfer fees, and brought in about £18m, so a £15m net spend to strengthen our squad

As it stands, the market value of our current squad is a whopping £118.85m

So we've spent £15m, but our squad value has increased by over £95m.....so that's an £80m increase in squad value having spent just £15m

I'll take that thanks 👍
