Yet where is the freedom of choice to be a racist, homophobic bigot? Where is the freedom of speech when I want to racially abuse people?

Are you expecting civil discourse on twitter? It’s the place for the worst type of discussions.

Any social media, really, because people are people.

There are also European homophobes etc can’t just hate on Africans.

Of course, they are the worst, especially the French and Frankfurters.

Personally, I'm against the concept of being gay, but not the gay person him/herself. I find it quite disgusting.

However, if I met a person who is gay, I would treat him/her like I would treat everyone else. I would treat him/her in the same way I would like others to treat me. His sexual inclinations wouldn't have the slightest impact on my demeanour towards that person.

In an era of freedom, it's imperative that people are allowed to subscribe to their own beliefs, as long as it doesn't harm others. If I dislike the concept of being gay, that's my freedom of thought based on my own research and findings. I shouldn't be forced to accept otherwise.

You have to remember that majority of world population see being gay as wrong. So it's wring to impose a minority belief onto the majority.

Saying all that, I repeat that abusive/violent behavior towards gay people is totally wrong.

Is this Barry's latest persona?

Tbh, I don't even believe this "Jake Daniels" story. It is just a Blackpool PR stunt. They just plucked a homosexual out of a nightclub and chucked him on the pitch for a couple of minutes - then 2 days later proudly claiming they have the first gay footballer in England for 40 years.

obviously racism is still rife in the world, but is homophobia just a big an issue that gets swept under the carpet?

It was a tad ironic seeing Koulibaly come out in defence of Idrissa Gueye a few days ago because Gueye refused to wear the PSG rainbow shirt by saying "your choices must be respected".

Koulibaly has rightly called out racism in Italy in the past but to then not hold the same standards for homophobia.

In many parts they’ve a very long way to go to catch up with the rest of the world, in many ways. I’ve seen similar posts.

Same with Ukraine. It didn't get any attention for years and started to run out of money. Now there's a so called "war" and everyone is giving them money and Eurovision titles. All a big publicity stunt for attention and money.

Same with the earth as well. Marbles have been around since 2500 BC and for centuries everyone was content that the world was flat. Then marbles started to show a downturn in sales so the guy in charge claimed the earth was round like a marble and suddenly everyone started buying them as a pretend miniature version of the so called round earth. All just a big PR stunt that has just continued.

Also would like to see free speech progress into free action. What gives anyone else the right to decide what I can and cannot do? Who I can and cannot kill? Just because it upsets someone doesn't mean I shouldn't be entitled to do it.

Well, just look at Covid. The NHS was getting a bad rep, with Shipman, Allitt and the likes. Then they had us out clapping for them. Clapping for serial killers, smh.

As to the OP, I'm not sure you can neatly divide the world into homophobic and tolerant continents and countries. There are African countries with progressive laws and tolerant discourse, and others where your ability to live a normal life is horrifically curbed and threatened if you diverge from sexual/gender norms. Meanwhile, in the tolerant UK it is a brave and newsworthy event for a young footballer to decide not to lie about who he is. We have a long way to go.

It's notable that a handful of footballers in recent days (and yes, they are mainly Africans) have cited their religion as a reason to refuse to take a stance against inclusivity campaigns. I'd like to ask them about the various other things that ancient scripture commands them to do and to refrain from, and whether they follow all of these to the letter. And if not, why are some parts of the Bible or Koran not applicable to the conditions of the modern world, while others are the immutable word of god?

Interestingly, Gueye didn’t seem to have a problem with wearing kits that promote gambling and alcohol.

For me i think you have to respect other peoples religions and their core values. So while some forms of Christianity consider homosexuality to be unnatural and wrong, that is their right. However, Christianity should be preaching acceptance and tolerance and not hatred.

My mother is a Christian and does not believe homosexuality to be right, however, she does not have a hateful bone in her body and would never be prejudicial against a gay person .

I think we have to leave room in society for people who do not understand and struggle to accept certain things, particularly the older generation. so long as they are not harmful or negative. It is a largely generational thing that will work its way through over the years and tolerance and acceptance should spread.

Religion is the issue, plain and simple. Religion was first used to explain the unexplainable back in the day, then they realised that it can be used to control the masses and that’s what it’s been used for ever since. It is to blame (or used as the excuse) for numerous wars etc… it is now used in many parts of the world (including the western world) as the reason to discriminate against people based on their gender, race or sexuality. Religion is the single biggest issue we have in the world imo.

So having the view that homosexuals are morally wrong isn’t prejudiced because she doesn’t hate them?

Religion is nearly always at the heart of everything wrong. It needs to fack off back to the dark ages and exist only in books to be laughed at in the future

It is like with the Newcastle owners. We have accepted that their culture is different to ours and welcomed them. Here it is normal to put curry sauce on chips where as they would find that strange. In their country it is normal to kill journalists and stone women but that would not be a typical Saturday night for us. It is good to accept eachother's differences and be tolerant of different cultures and what they do.

If you don’t believe homosexuality to be a right (whatever that actually means), then you are naturally acting with prejudice against gay people, individually as demographically.

Acting in any way that fails to support full rights and protections for gay people is acting with prejudice against all gay people, by definition.
