PSG generally look quite a bit off when they play anyone good. Probably because of the lack of competition. He can move to a big club in a top league or spend his career stat padding in France.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mbappe would have mental stats even if he went to Real or City or wherever. Look at Benzema’s stats this year, over 40 goals, and he’s nowhere near the force Mbappe is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d argue he’s currently better.

He’s basically going to win a league title per year in France, so if he wins another World Cup and a couple of UCL titles, he’d be the GOAT.
————————————————————————
Rubbish. He’s not in Messi or Ronaldo’s league. Both were far better at Mbappe’s age.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That’s just nostalgia. Compare his numbers and achievements at 23 to the other two and he comes out well - certainly far ahead of Ronaldo.

Very few star players have ever won 2 World Cups, only really Pele & Garrincha come to mind - and that was forever ago. No one in the modern era has done it.

If Mbappe did win a 2nd World Cup title (France will be a strong contender in Qatar and he‘ll still only be 27 for the 2026 event), then it would be almost impossible to argue against him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ronaldo and Messi were both Ballon D’or winners at 23 scoring 40 odd goals in a season in far tougher leagues.

Of course Mbappe’s numbers are going to be better at that age. United and Barca were not elite or even the best sides in their respective country when they came into the first team.

The World Cup is a silly way to compare players. Are you saying that if France win it again that Pogba or Varane are GOAT contenders?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mbappe should have won the Ballon d’Or in 2018, when he was 19 - that was a robbery giving it to Modric instead.

Mbappe torched the field at the World Cup and won a treble with PSG, scoring around 40 goals that calendar year.

Pogba and Varane would be contenders for GOAT in their respective positions, yes. But they’re not the star offensive player on the team like Mbappe.

Pogba a GOAT contender? He’s not even the best midfielder at United then the opposition is Fred and McTomminay

Mbappe had a few good games and a few quite ones in that World Cup. An incredible achievement at 19 no doubt but wasn’t exactly Maradona-esque from 1986.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

You can buy a small island for circa 300k. So he culd afford one a week.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m sure you can - the running costs are usually mental though - particularly fresh water

Will never get anywhere near goat status wasting his best years in ligue 1.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ligue 1 is a major league nowadays. It’s no less credible than playing in Germany or Italy.

No one becomes GOAT because they won some world cups. It sounds great but world cup is not the best competition. Many teams could beat the WC winner.

Completely different era when domestic leagues were more equal. Does this really need explaining?

Yeah the Mbappe GOAT argument hinges on him winning a 2nd World Cup. He needs it because his overall goal tally will likely fall well short of Pele, CR7 & Messi.

Pele only really won 2 World Cups, he was injured for the 1962 tournament but because he played the 1st game they gave him a retrospective winner's medal decades later. So a 2nd title would equal Pele's haul, 3 would surpass it.

In France, he jgas no goat case (does he anywhere?).

With the numbers Benzema is putting up for Madrid, couldn't Mbappe? La Liga looks the weakest it's been in decades.

They really weren't - it's just nostalgia. Same reason why people think R9 > CR7 or that Ronaldinho is a top 10 player all-time.
