ach thats nothing .....

Marvin Andrews - done his ACL in. doctors all said he MUST have surgery to save his career.

Guy said nup, God will see me through it, if I have surgery I miss the season and we have a league to win. God will see me fine, just believe.

That then became the motto of the season trailing celtic all season we came back and won the league on the last day of the season.

I think in 3 games that season Marvin popped up with the winner late on in games.

Marvin waived any insurance and played 30 games at CB that season. Resulting in the players voting him their player of the year. Guy never took the smile of his face, crazy big preacher that he is !!

Love grit like this. Nevertheless, you've got to wonder what it will do to him later in life. Just look at the state Batistuta got himself into and he didn't do half of this.

believe it or not he never did have the surgery!

he went on to play for another 10 seasons after that ! granted at a lower level so there may well have been repercussions due to it. racked up over 100 caps for trinidad also.

Became a total cult hero with rangers despite only being at the club two years.

A total stick your head where others are too scared to put their feet player.

This is what happened to me. I got an operation done, keyhole surgery on my cartilage with three cameras inserted and was told I couldn't play again, at 17. I was just told last week I have osteoarthritis.

I'm sorry, that's a double whammy: not being able to play, and then having that. Hope you're okay.

Yeah I'm over not being able to play now as I'm 37 and honestly as long as I can walk, I'm happy. Many people with worse problems in the world.

It was however interesting that a guy who works for me had the same operation, only his club paid for it privately and he was back playing in weeks.

I was sent away from the hospital when I went the first time and given painkillers. Went to work a week later and suddenly my knee locked and I couldn't straighten it. Tried a different hospital and they told me straight away that I needed an operation. Think it was around 3 months later when I got it. I was told I was lucky that I was under 18 as I was given priority as many wait years. Perhaps the guy who works for me recovered quicker and was able to play again as he got his done nearly instantly.

37 is young to have a condition like that, that sucks. Will it cause you a lot of grief or is it quite manageable?

Honestly I've had problems with my knee every since and it just feels normal now. I just get on with it. For 20 years my locked and was painful for a couple of minutes after I 'clicked' my knee straight myself. Recently I wasn't able to do this and the pain lasts maybe half an hour, with me not being able to put much pressure on it, then it's back to 'normal'. I'm guessing the length of time will increase as I get older and I'm already having pain in my other knee and one of my elbows and shoulder. 37 going on 80

A lot of youth academies treat their players like sh.t - guys clearly needing scans that don't get them because the club policies pay for fixed scans per month and they are reserved for the first team if 'there's a lot going on'.

Ah man that really sucks, sounds like something that goes from annoying to somewhat debilitating. Hope they’ve got something that can help with that.

We also don't want a repeat of the 50s & 60s players living on corticosteroids and end up walking like Douglas Bader.

I wasn't offered anything, I think because I went to the hospital straight away and they sent me home with painkillers. I guess they then decided not to get involved or maybe because I wasn't first team as the guy I spoke about earlier had an operation privately through the same club when he was in the first team squad.

I think mine was a worse injury than his also. He was a goalkeeper, now a coach and did his simply rushing out to clear the ball. I did mine going in for a loose ball and we both went in strongly, with me getting the ball, putting him up in the air, only for him to come crashing down on top of my upper leg, whilst my leg got caught basically behind my back. Fuсker was about 18 stone too
