Chelsea couldn’t have predicted this, but if I was them I’d have turned to Inter and said £80m and you can have him back, or feck off.

They're not owned by peak abramovich anymore

Maybe Chelsea couldn’t have predicted this but plenty of United fans did.

What I wondered is, noting clubs usually spread a fee over the length of the contract, isn't it likely inter are just using Chelsea installments to 'free roll' getting lukaku back? Not sure what was paid upfront but that'd be a proper pi55take if I was a Chelsea fan.

Chelsea have new owners though that are required to make funds available, and just wrote off 1.5b, so I'm sure it'll barely effect them.

Chelsea bought a striker that doesn't suit the style they play, it's their own fault

Inter Milan are the real winners here.

I agree entirely with the article, and player power, as shown by Pogba and Lukaku, along with the agents concerned, is becoming a menace to the game ,both of these players should have been made to play and train with the reserve and junior teams .
I wonder who the next greedy ungrateful git will be !

This is the biggest myth I’ve seen. Lukaku missed sitters this year and barely moved. Got loads of through balls and could barely run.

I don’t understand the issues.
Lukaku just wanted to join his childhood club, from his childhood club and then wanted to go back to his childhood club. That’s after leaving his childhood club Man Utd. I say good luck to him. Chase your dreams young man.

Given Chelsea’s history of signing expensive, flop strikers they really should have.

He still finished as their top scorer and scored imparting goals that won the world club cup. He’s miles away from being considered a successful signing but the fact he’s leaving after one season means that at least he isn’t content with sitting on the bench and getting paid to waste away like Hazard and Bale

Expensive mistake but everyone seems quick to move on from it and fair play

That’s a nice way of calling him the worst transfer in premier league history.

Nah, Grealish might well take that. Torres was shocking, Di Maria etc

Alexis Sanchez etc

It’s not even debatable.

😅 your Lukaku hatred clouds your judgment young padowan

You once said Lukaku was as good as Kane.

The fact that robb is trying to defend lukaku is not a surprise

It is however pathetic

The Bale that has scored vital goals in 2 CL final wins and been part of one of the most successful periods at the most successful club in the world?

This one went sour pretty quickly. I do not believe its player power per se, Lukaku really didnt suit the way Tuchel wants them to play. He's far more a running on to things, facing goal kinda player and Tuchel almost wants the opposite in his system, so baffling purchase, ridiculous fee and an almost inevitable outcome, not helped by the player who clearly recognised at an early stage that CFC were not set up to play to his strengths and both parties unwilling to change.

Chelsea now lost 3 players for a total of £8m and will need to splash the cash on some quality replacements. No CBs or Strikers worth speaking of. They look a mile off catching those above

I dont think its player power - the bloke's just a massive phanny really, who wilts under pressure. Chelsea made a mistake getting him and they probably realise they'd be wise to get rid ASAP. An unhappy and demotivated Lukaku is an utterly useless player.

I suspect that is the last time one of Europe's elite is conned into paying big money for him though.

Bale has been a very good signing for Real - I’ll be the first one to say that but he has phoned it in for them since 2018. Lukaku could easily have just chosen to stay at Chelsea and collect his salary but all parties accept it was a bad move and fair play, he’s decided to go elsewhere and not prolong the mistake longer than it could have been prolonged.

No one comes out of this looking good but it could be much worse

It's strange though because surely Tuchel gave his scouts and DoF a list of requirements and attributes he wants in a striker and they came back with Lukaku?

We all know he's got a sh-t touch but can bang them in but what this has clarified is that mentally the guy is weak. He had a hissy fit at United and seems to have done the same at Chelsea.

Tbf I don’t think Tuchel picked Lukaku. Was imo more of a Roman signing. I think Tuchel wanted Haaland

Don't think Tuchel chooses either way though surely? Most clubs don't work like that anymore.
