Sell Raph next (hopefully not to the tools at Barca).

Plow it all back into 5-6 new players.

Wonder if it'll be Tyler Adams or Mo Camara in now?
I think I'd prefer Camara. And the Otavio rumours seem
pretty credible.

£42m plus £3m add ons and £5m agreed for the lad coming our way.

So £58m?

Depends how it’s paid I expect.

I think 42+(+) is decent enough. I don't think JM would've been able to get KP to where MB did. Maybe Pep will, but I doubt it.
Having said that, we could of course always hope for more.

Chelsea in now. Much prefer that to barca also. Didn't want to see raph or kp go but this is the best scenerio for the team.
100m or so all back into new buys will make next season interesting to say the least.

"I wonder if we took a hit on the fee to get more of it upfront, as opposed to installments, meaning easier to invest it this summer."

but the players were buying will be installments so does it matter

Hopefully, KP's sale means our 4th signing gets done fast. Stoopo I love your maths.

Still can't get my head round paying 5m for this kid who's never played a senior game or even much for City's u23 squad. What happened to Mcatee, Delap or Lavia. Players other clubs are sniffing round and show real promise.

McAtee would've been a massive addition long term.

We would never get McAtee. He will be a top top player and they know it.

Does this signal a major shift in style of play?

Was Philips part of the leadership circle?

We made no real effort to extend contract and as AR says we need to sell to buy.

Lots of time missed through injury has diminished his value and feels 5m for an unproven kid doesn’t soften the blow at all.

I can’t help but think back to the ads some years back with Byram, Taylor, Mowatt cook and Philips and Philips has proven to be the best of the lot.

I can do nothing but wish him well but will miss him.

My head's in overtime and had a few beers but it kinda feels like yeah we'll buy KP but you've got to take our player for 5m. I also feel like JM was happy to see him leave so he could get his own players in.

KP excelled under MB. He could very well get even
better under Pep. Maybe JM felt he didn't fit his style.

That’s the way I’ve been trying to make it better, by not knowing how a CDM works in a Marsch team and if it’d bring the best out of KP. Under Bielsa he was indispensable but, it’s still gutting. He may like a more box to box type who is also defensive.

posted on 24/6/22

Phillips will obviously be a big miss, but I do think some of his effectiveness is muted a bit in marsch’s preferred 2 pivot set up. Ie he’d still be very good in it but maybe not so irreplaceable. But it’s not why we’re ‘letting him go’.. it’s simply because he wants out and will be worth half as much in 12 months time.

Seen a couple of City journalists who reckon that the young lad is a top talent destined for regular PL football. I trust that if we have targeted him then we have done our research. Orta tends to get his youth recruitment down.

That's good to hear. I do feel that Orta is approaching this summer differently. As if he has learned lessons.

Serious question: since you think he is going to be a top player (and he probably is), do you think we could have negotiated a one year loan for him then as part of the Phillips sale? Bear in mind that Ben White came to us for one season and we benefitted enormously from his contribution.

That said, my concern anyway would be that it could stymie the progress of Joe Geldhardt.

Love how we sell and England international with prem experience for 42 mil yet have to pay 5 for an 18 year old who hasn't even kicked a ball in League 1.

Orta sure as hell needs to learn some lessons - I’d say his success rate is about 30%, which is pretty p!ss poor. In most other clubs the guy would be out of a job, but when you have mates in high places…

Orta’s youth signings have been a revolving door of cost and resource drain for us.

3 years in, look how well last youth signing from city is getting on, Poveda.

One example. I would raise you Struijk, Gelhardt, Meslier, Bate, Greenwood, and Hjelde, that's not even starting on the progression of our youth squads in the time he's been here.

But good on you for logging out to read what I post. Your life will be better off for it.
