I'm trying to work out how we won survival in the 94th minute, Burnley were losing before then and while they were losing we only had to draw!..

Have we spent serious money?

Philips out £45m
Aaronson in £25m
Rasmussen in £10m
Roca in £12m
Garbi in £5m

That's a net spend of 7m

And we are about to spend about 45m on two others.

That's a net spend of 52m. On top of the fact we have one of the highest net spends in the world over the last two years.

I think you'll find Adams is also in!..

Have the club announced this Germany?

£7m net spend is correct at present.

Raphinha money to pay for others so not expecting much of a financial outlay overall.

I was expecting us to spend net £50m minimum.

Jonty, I posted a link from Kicker our last signing about 3 hours before the club said anything, I've said Kicker is as good as any when they report anything and they've said he's now/today having his medical!..

So I don't think there'll be any problem there and he's costing around 23m!..

So after today he should be ours!..

Think the club is currently working on the basis that Raph may well be here next season. Makes sense of why we are looking for a LW specialist and not a RW specialist as his 'replacement'. Seems that it's either Barca or Leeds for him at the moment.

Regardless of what the net spend adds up to at the end of the window, we have spent a lot these last few seasons without really recouping any money through sales. That's not sustainable, so if the net spend ends up low then that's not a bad thing.

Depends what happens with Raphinha, but if he goes for 55m, then expect more has to spent, but will probably be a low net spend, which is less important than bringing in actual quality.

Signings look ok on paper, hopefully Orta has a better success rate this window, as a lot in banking on them performing with losing 2 key players and already very short.

Ok, so nothing from the Leeds website then, I'll wait for that before assuming.

Kebab exactly, now what happens if club find they cant offload Raphinha....

Wetherby exactly, it's hard to claim huge spending when net spending is low as selling to replace.

As you say and I've said before, have to hope that Orta suddenly comes up with a better hit rate.

Its a big step up for these level of players and foreign signings rarely hit ground running with us, I suspect due to calibre of player.

Jonty, that's fine by me!..

Im wondering if we might see Harrison on the right side more next season and Sinisterra on the left

im seeing nothing to get excited about. Selling two top quality proven PL players and orta bringing in a lot of if buts and maybes. Could work out fine but could just as easily fall flat on its face and we will be up the creek without a paddle as transfer funds most likely all blown. Currently at 2/1-5/2 4th favourites to go down and unless we get off to a flyer i can only see our odds going one way. Funny thing is i felt same way when MB took over as had no idea what to expect. This time round we have seen JMs system and it doesnt fill me with confidence especially with firpo as an obvious weak link on the left. Happy we are getting cover for midfield but feel we still need a new LB and another striker and maybe a back up keeper. Happy enough if we keep Jack, James, Summerville and this new guy as cover for wings so for once we might actually be covered in all positions just a matter of whether all these new signings are any good or not. Jury still out for me on both JM and all these new guys and as for the 3 at the top time for them to move on

Germany, that article says Marsch is his foster father, does that mean that due to their close association that JM has acted as if he were a virtual/foster father to him?

Els, it feels the same as we talk about MB & KP.
Like a father figure teaching/coaching a player and
the man as he develops. JM & TA similar to that.

Els, I said on Shauns Sinisterra thread it seems Marsch has a lot off foster kids at Red Bull!..

It seems he's after getting as many Bulls in as he can!..

Most off what he's brought in at the moment he's worked with in the past, so hopefully he can bring them all together and get it to work, because there's nothing to say it will!..

Elland, just realised that my thread is quite similar to yours, I posted it on the spur of the whiskey, sorry if it cut across you. Yours is much better, though
Just to add to LUFC's point, you can see what what JM is looking for in his squad; younger, dynamic players who can hold back for long periods and then produce explosive moments up front. I just wonder how our senior players will mesh with them. Koch, DJ, Harrison and Meslier will be fine, but Llorente and Rodrigo? Not so sure. Rodrigo in particular is a worry. His body language when Harrison scored at Brentford just stuck out like a sore thumb. The boys went crazy while he just walked slowly back to the halfway line as though nothing had happened.

Ha ha! No worries my friend. Great minds etc The spooky part is I also had a couple of glasses of JD when I wrote my article, as I usually do. It helps my muse while paradoxically destroying my rapidly decreasing brain cells
