I’m with Harry, it’s a disgrace they’ve been forced to take a pay cut in these times, do you know how much it costs to fill a Ferrari?

Inflation was already giving them a real terms cut and now this, insult to injury as they see their money hoovered up by the owners.

Another season on strike for United.

It was time to get rid of him years ago because he's not very good...

Just seen this. I'm hoping it's just a mistake from his social media team more than anything else. That post was put up about an hour ago so I'd hope Maguire himself would be training or something at the time.

Careful what you wish for when Arsenal are looking for a CB.

This seems to be the post the OP is on about.

The post is about Ronaldo supposedly being upset at the 25% reduction which isn't what the OP stated.

ETH can make a huge statement and demand Harry Maguire is sold asap even if it’s for £5m to a rival.
===============

Can't see West Ham or Palace wanting him tbh.

Not a bad shout. Forest could play him on the left of a three which may suit him.

Scousers are hilarious aren’t they?

West Ham are literally your direct rivals in the league as that is who you finished closest to. You also finished closer on points to Palace than Arsenal so it's not actually a joke is it. It's a fact.

Table doesn't lie and all that.

The cant should be sold! He’s garbage, a liability, worst captain in the premier league.

You think its OK the club captain supports negative stories about the squad / club ?

I stated my surprise the other day at the "pay cut" approach to wages, to 'reward failure with reduced wages, rather than a bonus scheme to incentivise success.

Having money taken away from you is harsh and will breed contempt. Sure the players failed to deliver but it is not their fault alone....the recruitment, the managerial and coaching appointments, and a lot of off pitch stuff/incompetence has resulted in the clusterfeck of last season. United missed out on top 4 because other teams are better managed, have better more balanced squads, and decision making has been good.

Its a great incentive and makes up for the shortfall in revenue.

Whilst you do have a point, the wages they are on to begin with are based on and indicative of a minimum expectation of CL qualification.

Whether they see the wage cut as unfair or not, the fact of the matter is that they will still be receiving higher wages than any players at clubs playing at a similar level. If the players are upset, then they should look at themselves in the mirror and ask if they did enough to justify their extremely large salaries.

You sack the pe teacher mid season and appoint someone so out of his depth its beyond funny, on a caretaker basis where he basically has not influence, and not listened to in the transfer window.

Compare that to Spurs, who sacked their clueless nice guy manager, quite ruthlessly really, brought in a permanent new man, backed him in January, gave him power to ship out expensive under performers, and they reap the rewards.

Not saying you should have got Conte but Spurs successful turn around this season has been achieved through excellent off field decision making. United demise has been made worse by dreadful decision making - so not the players fault as they were not really given the right tools to succeed....yet they get the pay cut!

if you manage people you will see the impact this will have on them, on their morale, on their loyalty and their productivity. I get the approach, and ultimately its financially neutral if you give bonuses or take away wages, but from a people management perspective can be a very harsh way of doing it.

Perhaps it helps getting signings through the door if the headline wages are high.

Footballers may be loaded, but they are humans (mostly) and they will really begrudge losing wages as you or I would and particularly if i felt i had performed to a high level while others did not....and those others may be being picked by a manager, which you may not agree with, and the appointment of the manager can also be something you do not agree with and consider contributes to the failings. There may be many things out of your control on and off the pitch which result in you getting a pay cut, this will irk some and can be toxic. Slightly different I would say if you do not qualify for your bonus.

The club chose not to go for Conte, it may tun out to be a mistake but I udnerstand why. The club hope that with EtH we can build some solid foundations and actually build on them and have some kind of stability and for many years. Conte is a very good manager but also very volatile and maybe doesn't have the track record of a manager who wants to stay for long.

Ralph was a mess but again I got the thinking as we wanted to wait for our main targets which were EtH and Poch. Ralph came in and took over a squad in complete disaray and not being a permanent choice meant the players didn't ever get behind him. He offered his services to EtH but he wants to do things his own way.

It all may f-ck up with EtH like it has with previous managers but I can at least see the club trying to take a different approach this time, one many fans have been crying out for for years.

I wasnt really making the case you should have gone for Conte in particular, i have read plenty of Utds fans view about long term building something! SO i understand that.

But decision-making about sacking Ole (and probably appointing him in the first lace and then persisting with him), the timing of it, how he was (or wasnt) backed in teh window and then once you have sacked him, what happens next. Appointing Ralph as a temp was a very odd decision on many levels. I bet if you had gone on for Potter you'd have got him, may be even ETH....but to have another caretaker just sends such a bad message, and he was pretty clueless so its even worse.

These decisions have now lead to where you find yourself, and to a degree it was inevitable that you'd fall short especially where Spurs & Arsenal were upping their games. Players paying for it with wage cuts. And if you appoint a rookie in ETH, dont back him massively, can you expect top 4 next season when Spurs and Arsenal are strongly adding to their squads.
