Wanted to jump ship to your city rivals, can you be a legend when you come out with that...

Great player when he was young but aged horribly. Coincidentally that is also his preference when it comes to women.

worked for gerrard.

he likes horribly aged women?

Gerrard wanted to move to Everton?

Grannies.

He has better PR than Ole and Maguire. Atleast they left it a while after relegations to manipulate people into thinking they're good at their job, Rooney did it while he was relegating his team.

Combination of three things, for me, that soured his reputation with us:

1) Trying to force his way out twice, of course.

2) Like a lot of United fans, I have a unyielding and blinkered loyalty to SAF, who had clearly had enough of Wazza at the end. I recall it being said at the time that leaving Rooney out of his last ever match day squad (or was it just the starting 11?) was SAF's final condemnation of him.

3) He dropped off a lot earlier than people would care to admit. He still had the odd moment, half, or game in him which is testament to his undeniable brilliance, but by his late 20s (usually the peak for a striker) his level had fallen significantly. He had something of a rebirth during Moyes's first few games, but we all know how that went...

Overall, it's a damn shame how it all worked out because he was a truly wonderful player for us for a long, long time. I remember saying to my brother when we sold CR7 that the only way I could've been more upset is if we'd have sold Wazza. CR7 was the better player, but I felt Rooney embodied something a little bit more akin to MUFC (let's face it, English) tradition.

He really looks to be rebuilding his image and perception with a lot of folk, however, during his time in management; long may it continue

Given our fetish for relegated players and managers i wouldn't be surprised if he's next in line after the current puppet.

I’ve no doubt over time his status as a club legend will grow.

This tends to be the case at Utd.

It's usually when they come back as manager, win nothing, constantly defend the owners, grinning while bottling 22 trophies, match the clubs worst ever home defeat twice, sign Maguire for £180m while watching our two biggest rivals sweep up on the trophies while turning OT into their second homes.

That's what really boosts their legacy with these lot.

Nah much like Scholes and Carrick he'll be Pele and Messi rolled into one in 5-10 years.

Add Maradona to the mix if he returns and loses 8-2 to you lot over two home games.

Rooney is a club legend. Like Giggs, he stayed too long

posted on 6/7/22

Rooney was overrated for a lot of his career, but his stats are incredible. I don’t think he stayed at the top level long enough, I.e like Benzema (who is the closest comparison imo to talent and style of play). He was the perfect supporting cast to Ronaldo, and wasn’t bad as the main man, but that period lasted too short.

Rooney and Benzema. Two players who despite being world class player's realized Ronaldo was better and sacrificed parts of themselves for the good of the team.

Meanwhile our current lot have too big of ego's to do the same because Cardiff City's worst ever manager was gassing them up at every available opportunity.

The damage he's done will take decades to repair.

I can see why you would want to keep them sweet. When you lot were blindly defending Dalglish, Carroll, aged Gerrard etc it was definitely in my best interest to keep you defending them.

Just not sure what supposed United fans get out of defending The Glazers.

Hmm, Rooney was the main man as Scholes started to age and retired. He was the focal point of our attacking play and everything went through him. Just because he did it deeper doesn't mean that he wasn't the main man.

Why should anyone sacrifice themselves to prop up CR7 goals and ego if he cannot even help them challenge for titles

when roooney and benzema sacrificed themselves for CR7, it was because they could see the bigger picture of how he will bring success to the team.

That vision of team success has not existed at utd for almost a decade. I hope ten hag and his team can reignite that vision and belief

Stats wise he is the greatest striker for Man U and England.

Due to his early promise he never quite fulfilled the massive expectations people had of him for playing for England.

In club football he won everything.

This "team" without him also failed. The only difference was they were grinning and having their ego's stroked by Cardiff City's worst ever manager while doing it whereas now they have a true winner holding them to account.

Any other club would back the winning horse, but no not us, we choose a 4x relegated player and free academy players with a 14% pass accuracy while fans who "want the Glazers out" side with the options that makes their life easier and/or saves them more money.

Brilliant player. Club legend. I will always remember him as one of my favourites.

He peeked in his early twenties though and stayed at the club too long . He was never quite the same after the Bayern injury in 2010 even if 11/12 was one of his best statistically.

SAF would have sold him if he’d stayed another year imo.
