Not every signing needs to be a household name but it would help if some were.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s rarely worked for us in recent years.
Fluck knows whether Brobbey is good enough, but if we signed someone cheap & with promise plus someone cheap but experienced e.g. Dybala or Vardy, that could be a pragmatic way to cover ourselves in the short term.
(Strikes me that might be one of the first times in human history that someone considered picking between Paulo Dybala or Jamie Vardy.)

Neither have non household names. We have just as bad a success rate with ‘smaller’ names as we do with the big ones. Getting some young up and coming names is great and we need a couple but we also need some players who can come in and hit the ground running as this season isn’t a free hit. We will have some minimum objectives

Martinez and De Jong are both 25. They should be ready. Hopefully we get them over the line. There’s still plenty of experience in our squad.

Dybala is one I’m warming to if we could get him on a similar deal to Eriksen. I doubt it will happen though.
I think Vardy is on the verge of a sharp decline so I think we should stay well clear.
I think Vardy may well be over the hill now. But take the point.

Obscure players and famous players have mainly flopped. The common denominator is that we have been bad at recruitment for about a decade. The solution is to assess potential targets more cleverly and with a better sense of how we intend to deploy them and develop them. Forget about 'household names' as a criterion, but do consider what kind of blend of players with experience and those potential to scope to improve we want.
I look forward to seeing mr brobbey on the pitch for us, will fit in well with the likes of Maguire
Vardy should be a no-go now. A bit long in the tooth and we don't need the baggage that is his Mrs.

He’s been very good for 7-8 years but he’s 35 now. We really need to refrain from signing players in their 30’s. It rarely works for us.
Hang on we are trying to buy this guy? https://youtu.be/BhaAW2wlIJA
This guy has a worse first touch than Dirk Kuyt. An atrocious player.
No idea but his profile sounds like the sort of player we should be going for in that area.
Would much rather we go all out for Broja. Ticks many more boxes

Chelsea would ask for a big fee. 6 in 32 in the PL last season was hardly prolific either.

The deal would pay for itself in social engagement if she and the Rooneys ended up in the corporate seats next to each other.

I doubt it would be that big. £40-50 million max for a very good player at just 20.
This would honestly be hilarious. You should be begging for Ed Woodward back at this point
I wouldn’t even be against Tammy Abraham.
Abraham
Bowen
Tielemans
Lamptey
Hardly a bad list of names

Abraham was average in the PL.
Bowen. Very good player. West Ham would ask for a fortune though.
Tielemans. I’d take him if De Jong falls through.
Lamptey. Good wing back but potentially too small to play in a back 4.
We have plenty of money to spend. I got this from the horses mouth when that horse went to the pub to drink with fans

We do. But it isn’t unlimited. Spending 40-50 million on a striker with a 1 in 6 PL record is risky.
From a small handful of Roma games I've watched and relying more on what I've read about him, Abraham has been excellent in Italy. I wouldn't expect him to come in and score zillions of goals but I think he would knit our attack together with intelligent movement, good hold-up play and passing. The obstacle with Tammy from my point of view isn't his talent, but the prohibitive cost one very successful year into his Roma contract. Likely he's keen to stay as well: every chance that he will further develop next season, which will be good for his career and remuneration long-term.
