Got a good few youngsters signed up as well so the futures good..

I always said (as well as Souttar) we needed a RW, a CF and a goal scoring CM.

On paper Colak, Motondo and Lawrence tick those boxes.

It’s now up to them to show they are good enough.

Anything else from here on in is gravy👍

Lawrence isn’t a cm. Anywhere across the line behind the striker.

CM all we need now

People seem to be excited about this guy and our window generally.

It’s okay but I’m not particularly enthusiastic, delighted to have a RW but like the reality is

Souttar - Balogun
Lawrence - Aribo
Matondo - Hastie
Itten - Colak

A rollling paper between the defenders, Balogun better imo but Souttar’s profile makes more sense and if it works good swap.

Would rather have Aribo than Lawrence but he should get goals although doubt he will be as useful in Europe.

Matondo could be a big upgrade at RW. Should be first pick there. Sakala potentially surplus now we have someone with his pace and more ability.

Colak not the best age profile but looks better suited than Itten as 3rd choice.

Id say he can play in that advanced CM role Gio uses. the cm thats is expected to get beyond the striker or link with him. Domestically he could be useful in that role the way Aribo/Arfield and kamara at the end of the season was sometimes used in.

I think we need a creative cm. We have plenty of DM who are tidy on the ball and plenty of more direct attackers but no playmaker types (unlikely to see Hagi most of season)

I dont think thats what Gio wants. I think he likes two guys that cover the centre themselves allowing the more advanced one to play a more free role.

I think we looked our strongest when we had Lundstrum and Jack as the two doing that role last year

Yeah I reckon I'm a dinosaur that thinks it's still important to have a playmaker

not at all, horses for courses , plenty of systems out there still use them. Gerrard did, he preferred to have two holding mid that filled the fullback positions and one to get on the ball (Davis) and dictate play

It’s always goi g to be a number one replacement though, you cannot keep buying without releasing or the squad gets too bloated and disharmony creeps in with players not playing. It’s more a case of whether we have increased the quality of the squad and time will tell for that. It could be worse, we could have spunked the majority of next seasons money on standing still, that would be honking man

Lundstrum was the man to slip into the centre of a back three with Bassey and Goldson either side when the full backs were pushing up. Leaving Jack / Kamara as the defensive mid. That’s why it’s so important that we get Barisic back to the form he showed two years ago

that only really happened when we were playing the better teams , we might have done this against celtic in one of the games?

But that whole back three with Lundstrum was almost exclusively used in europe i think?

But on the main for the vast majorty of our games it was Gio asking two guys to cover the whole midfield and one to play more advanced ... in europe he switched between this and the 3 at the back way as when he felt it was needed.

I don’t mean playing it as a rigid system, more that when the full backs pushed on Lundstrum was the man to slip in to cover them. We were more flexible IMO domestically in the second half of the season when we done this

Gio did very well in being able to coach that into the team, it worked so well in europe and was IMO the reason we did what we were able to. the way the team knew and fluidly switched it up during games was excellent. So many times we switched in europe during the game that it would bring us 5/10 mins of real threat and difference as the opposition had to re adjust to runners coming from different areas.

This was especially the case once we lost our strikers.

Yeah but not really sure that's Davis strength as he is probably better as a DM too.

Maybe Lowry could develop into that type of player

With Kent on the left and Motondo on the right I’d see Lawrence playing more of a ten.

Aribo was excellent in that role first half of a season but Hagi got injured and he moved back out to the right.

Kamara was pushed forward in that position but he generally doesn’t have that dig for 20-25 yards that Lawrence seems to.

yeah thats exactly how I was seeing it also. I suspect that may be for games we will dominate, this might not be the case in tight games where he may want a more natural CM for those games.

Some interesting and positive moves by Rangers.

This was bound to happen after seeing how Celtic have been so successful in the Japanese market and the commercial benefits it is starting to bring.

Obviously after the tremendous success of Aaron Ramsey and coming so close to landing Gareth Bale, Rangers have decided to focus on getting market dominance in Wales

Rangers' merchandising supremo Mike Ashley, has apparently moved a load of the new home kit to his Rangers Superstores in Cardiff and Swansea.

Already rumours of a homecoming tour of Wales while Celtic are in the Sydney Cup.

I think years ago but not the Davis we have had the last few seasons. Gerrard put legs around him and let him dictate the ball, he was the one that always collected the ball from the the other two and started moves. I think you mean more of a advanced playmaker (no 10) which is what I think Lawrence has been brought in for. He wont be the passing no 10 he will be a goal threat no 10. more similar to what Commons did for celtic before he became a bloated mess. get efforts on goal of and go beyond the striker
