Is Chelsea happy that they missed out on Raphinha?
---------------------------------------------------------
I'm not bothered personally. None of Sterling, Raphinha or Dembele inspired me tbh, whichever one we signed would've invoked the same levels of meh in me
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't believe you. All of them represent a significant upgrade on Werner and Pulisic. Maybe Dembele and his injuries would suck though tbf

Are Chelsea going to move to a back four next season?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Who knows. I've given up trying to predict what's in Tuchel's head.
He definitely could in theory now Rudiger & Christensen have gone (with Koulibaly in), but we'd need to revert to the back 3 if one of Chilwell or James got injured again. Azpi can barely handle CB in the 3 anymore let alone FB. And Alonso as a WB is weak, but as a FB is the definition of absolute garbage
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thiago is not made for a back 4. As classy as he is he benefits greatly from being one of 3. In a back four, he will get isolated and exposed.

I do, I feel the same. They may be upgrades that doesn't mean we can still feel a bit meh. Of course if I'm wrong I'll be delighted. I'll judge our signings as a whole once the window shuts, bit only as I see the impact on the team. The reality will come in the season.
Fair enough. From my unqualified outside opinion, Sterling would've made more sense if you were keeping Lukaku. His jnky little runs and pinpoint floaty crosses would've served 20 goals on a plate. I think Raphinha would've made you much better.
But yes, the proof is in the pudding of course.

Chelsea cb may be old but they are top class. Same argument could apply to perisic, who's nearly 34 and never played in a league that is one of the most demanding, in one of the hardest positions. Yet all spurs fans I've seen are convinced he will succeed. Of say he has more chance of failure than koulibaly tbh.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I do think it's kinda funny that now he's joining us all of a sudden his quality is in doubt. You can question the decision to spend that kind of money on a player his age, and certainly question the four year deal, but his quality hasn't been in question for approx 4-5 years now.
He wouldn't look out of place signing for Pool or City what so ever, Pool fans would absolutely cream themselves thinking about him & VVD together
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think the point is that he has a great reputation but now he's coming to the PL aged 31 people ate bound to question why now, why didn't he go to Juve or somewhere in his prime and most of all he's replacing Rudiger alongside an aging Thiago. slightly different if he were slotting in alongside VVD.
always enjoy seeing new big names come to the PL, and seeing how they cope and what they bring. He seems linked with a big team every year and has finally made that move.

Devil, I think there’s always going to be question marks over the quality of the top defenders in Italy given how low the standard of defending is there nowadays.
Tomori and Smalling went there and were among the top performers, and they can’t even get in an England squad that’s lacking quality at cb.

It seems Rudi has had as many if not more injuries over the years. During the period that Rudiger has been at Chelsea games missed have been similar, if you remove vcovid from the equation better in favour of Koulibaly.

Just koulibaly and sterling makes it a better window than spurs tbh. Spurs have been big on numbers in but low on quality. I suspect Chelsea and spurs aren't done spending yet, but my gut instinct says Chelsea will get a better calibre of player, and finish above spurs next year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do you compare everything to Tottenham ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's called fear mate. A very well known defense mechanism when you see a real challenge.
Belittle everything they do, and at the same time try to tell everyone that what you are doing or have is better than what they are doing or have.
An average Chelsea fan would not have given a t*ss what Spurs were doing a couple of years ago. Now they have a constant opinion on everything.
We are coming up behind them fast, and they know it.
As for their "we are back in the game" Chairman ?
Loaning out the most expensive flop in football history, whilst still retaining the £100m liability, knowing it wont be recouped, is really not that clever.
Considering buying Ronny when the other 18 Chairman had the sense to not touch it with a barge pole is not clever.
Offering a player no doubt obscene wages util he is 36, which he WILL hold you to, is not clever.
And as for Sterling. Well if, as the poster said, they don't need him, then why waste more money buying him. As I have already said, not clever. I would have thought the bigger question is why were City happy to offload him ?
Still, I am sure your progressive Chairman is "on it"
Just hope someone on the board has told him we don't call it soccer over here.
Napoli manager would never sell to juventus.
He’s chosen to stay at Napoli through loyalty and said it would only take “three teams” to tempt him.
Price and contract length also been a factor.

All well and good but the poster you are referring to is not a Chelsea fan so your reasoning fails miserably, a bit like Spurs, year after year.
OK. I only used Juve as an example of an Italian big club, there are others bigger than Napoli, but if the guy is loyal then that's a good thing.
Will watch with interest, particularly his ability on the ball as this was a real asset to Rudiger in the end and it is generally important for CBs in a back three to be able to step into midfield with the ball.

Napoli's chairman is well known in Italy for being like Levy - tight & exhausting to deal with. Napoli don't operate under some of the beneficial conditions Spurs do (participating in the PL being one) so more inconvenient sales will happen, Higuain to Juventus probably most notable recent example, but it's always for great money. So is this deal, great of a player Koulibaly is this is a smashing deal for them
Lazio's chairman is the same. SMS is a REALLY good player, but he hasn't moved yet cos the chairman's basically priced him out of the market. Doesn't mean he's not a great player though.

Really disagree with this. If we sold him and look a hit, that would hit the P&L straight away and presumably diminish our ability to invest in the squad to comply with FFP. This summer we need to invest given the players who have left. Sure, we will take a hit at some point... But this summer isn't the right time to do it. Let a bit of his value amortise through the usual cost spreading first. It's allowing us to buy quality in sterling and koulibaly and I'm guessing one or two others before the end of the window.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s widely reported why he didn’t go to juve and hasn’t gone to other teams over the years. Cmon Devon if u spent as much time actually researching the topics then you do on here you’d know the answers to a lot of what you post.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do enlighten me . I know he's had a few injuries over the years but is that the reason for staying in Naples?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rudiger injury history

Koulibaly I jury history

Chelsea are no longer financially doped, so it stands to reason that without their massive financial advantage of the past 20 years, they will quickly come back to the pack.
We shall see, but Chelsea aint going to be hoovering up trophies like under the Russian.
Big reality check coming up for all their modern fans.
