The move, for an initial £49m, is subject to a medical, personal terms being finalised and a UK visa.
The deal includes £8.5m in add-ons and £2.2m in solidarity payments to Martinez's former clubs.

We should’ve gone for Spoonez for €100m instead, he’s made some great clearances so far in pre season, a lot in at CB no problem.

Some stats from Squawka comparing a few other CBs with him, obviously different leagues being played in but some things can still be compared regardless of opposition.
Interesting that he has a higher % of aerial duels won than Koulibaly who is about 3 metres taller.

By accounts he delt with haaland last season.. Not a bragging statement but more a observelation about being able to hold his own
There will be times when a striker gets the better of him, maybe purely down to size, maybe another reason. A lot will be made of it by opposition fans on here and the likes of Jamie Redknapp stating the obvious that someone taller won a header.
Over the course of the season and years to come I think he’ll make a big difference to our build up play and ability to adapt to how ETH wants us to play. But this will only happen if we sort the midfield out, if we don’t, he’s just going to be another defender that’s hugely exposed time and time again when teams walk through us easily.
It's amusing when I read posters saying "midget" "too small" etc, to be fair I have no idea how he will do in the EPL as he's not played there yet but what I have seen of him I am happy to say he is better in aerial duels than his "size" might suggest and looks like he is a player who MIGHT be a more than decent signing
Of course I get that other fans will WUM and chat shiete for the craic, that's to be expected and as it should be but none of them can be certain, including me how he will be?

Looks a great signing if he can replicate his form. Evra was quite good in the air amidst his height. I also don't think this is much of an issue today as back in the day as everyone is trying to play football the Klopp and Guardiola way
His height was always going to be the main focus for people but I don't think it'll be as big a problem as some people think it will as Mike has already said, he's pretty decent in the air for his size and due to his aggressive nature, he's good at disrupting larger opponents and preventing them from even making contact or getting a good contact on the ball in the air.
One big advantage of having Martinez is he already knows how to defend in a Ten Hag team so defending open space and in transition won't be anything new to him and given his added mobility, he'll be more comfortable doing that than Maguire.

I don't see it as a big shout having watched him demonstrate this in the Champions League as well. His playmaking ability I think would be one of his more easily transferable skills when it comes to different leagues, especially as he'll be playing in a similar set up under the same manager.

£35m for Carroll. Until a worse transfer occurs in football you should be silent. Even Maguire looks like a bargain compared to that LOL moment.

That’s a pretty big shout. Three seasons in the Dutch league is way too early to label anyone ‘elite’ at anything.

I don't see it as a big shout having watched him demonstrate this in the Champions League as well. His playmaking ability I think would be one of his more easily transferable skills when it comes to different leagues, especially as he'll be playing in a similar set up under the same manager.

The move, for an initial £49m, is subject to a medical, personal terms being finalised and a UK visa.
The deal includes £8.5m in add-ons and £2.2m in solidarity payments to Martinez's former clubs.

Every penny added to the headline figure whenever we sign someone isn’t it?

We were able to get rid of Carroll, you’re well and truly stuck with your lumbering wreck.

We're going to be the joke of the century when Ten Hag makes Maguire untouchable and rotates this guy and Varane.
