Last season Celtic got humped by West Ham in a pre- season friendly then went on to strengthen their squad and won the league.

This pre- season Rangers beat West Ham with their new signings playing. So guess what?….

Expect the Jambos to get third aye. Think they're favourites for Shankland too who's defo leaving after the relegation.

Thinking of doing a wager on the scots premier without celtic and Rangers.

Anyone got any ideas, who have made the best signings.

Will Hearts cement 3rd place again, or will hibs or Aberdeen improve.

Could Ivan tangerines improve big time.

Any tips be appreciated.

assuming they have replaced Souttar well, Hearts will skoosh it to 3rd I reckon

There is clearly only so much you can take from preseason games. And (bar the doing against celtic) our problem last season wasnt competing against decent teams so last night is hardly a game changer for us.

Our problem last season was finishing off teams we were absolutely dominating in domestic games. All it takes is getting a break of a ball (the jammy Dundee United goal in the 1-0) or a mistake (Several from McGregor) and if we hadnt built up a 2 or 3 goal lead by that point it can lead to points dropped.

Gio has been open in saying he has targetted players with different attacking threats and qualities. He knows we need more goals domestically.

Whilst last night was a nothing game you can say it was encouraging that Matondo and Lawrence in particular certainly seem capable of doing the job they were brought to do.

Theres a long way to go though and we wont know how effective they really are until we have been to Fir Park, Tannadice, St Mirren etc and faced 11 men behind the ball 30 yards from their own goal for 90 minutes.

Hoping Colak sharpens up soon, not happy going into the qualifiers with him leading the line at the moment. Alfie being injured is a pain in a number of ways, not able to use him and can't sell him which means we can't bring in anyone else.

I see we are linked with Ridvan Yilmaz a LB, 21yo Turkish international. 4m the fee being touted. Seems promising.

what we can say however is on early viewings Matondo looks like an improvement over anyone we have had on the right hand side since ???? god knows how long? pre 2012?!

i'm pleased with our striking options in GG & Kyogo, if both get injured i'm not wild about maeda up front.

lots of running, lots of closing down, but always wary of a player who is better off the ball than on it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Given that strikers see very little of the ball their performance off it is usually just as significant imho.

true but the flip side to that is that when they get the ball there is more an emphasis to do something with it.

From my persepctive If you ever decided to play Maeda over Kyogo or GG than I would be chuffed. Yes Maeda can press well, yes he tries pure hard, meh doesnt worry me... even if he gets the ball back he rarely does anything with it.

He is your Sebo IMO

He certainly seems to have the attributes and did have a decent season in Belgium.

But he has only played half a game at home against a team that wasnt sitting in so there was plenty of room for him to make the most of his key attribute - his speed.

I am optimistic but will be reserving judgement until I see what he can do against packed defences, getting repeatedly halfed by the hammer throwers in our league and getting absolutely no protection from the referee.

I still think he looks miles better than anyone we have ad the last decade or so... he instantly look to have more in his locker than Wright, Ohallaron, stewart, waghorn etc...

even on the wing silver, i don't think he's particularly skillful, control isnt great, crossing, passing, finishing are average.

good in the air to be fair and his positioning is decent but his pace and work rate are outstanding.

wonder what the january window will be like this season btw, normally a good world cup gets players a move, it's a terrific platform for scouting.

I’d much prefer either Lawrence or Matondo on the right over Wright. Wright is a good squad player, and impact player off the bench, but nothing more unless he improves his consistency and decision making massively.

Another positive for me was McLaughlin coming off his line a few times, a smart stop one on one, and claiming a couple crosses, couldn’t see what happened for their goal but apparently should’ve been a free kick. Hopefully a sign that he’s no.1 this season, as he’s be an improvement on last seasons McGregor

I think Wright blew his chance big time last night.

Matondo has come in and willbebreathing down his neck. Last night was a chance for Wright to step up and show he is good enough.

He was very poor and was actually hiding last 10-15 minutes of the first half.

Think Wright will be adoption a permanent position on the subs bench for the coming season.

If his head isnt in it or his confidence is down he is Maurice Ross with a cross

Poor Mo - took Cowdenbeath right out the leagues so he can say he went one better than Rangers!

Celtic will have to find a way to deal with that because he was massive for you in the cup semi. Blockers or near post & short corners only probably?

Wait, does not living in Bearsden off that money affect things?

Zoe does indeed. Mrs Silver enjoyed a fine evening at theirs at the start of summer.
