I wouldn`t be surprised if the draw is rigged, this is UEFA and just look at the easy draw Varpool enjoyed last year, they had the easiest path to the final possible. Zero chance Spurs end up with a favourable draw like that.

If Spurs get the exact same draw as Liverpool did last season they'd probably not make it out the group and would be very lucky to even get in to the Ropey League.

What i have noticed about Contes time at Spurs is that when we have had time on the training ground to prepare, we have USUALLY performed well. Not always but generally this pattern holds out.
Europe gives little or no time to prepare for the opposition. PL game, rest day, train & travel day, then train and play day.
At least in the PL you are more familiar with the opposition and while training pitch time helps, you have a very decent idea of what to expect. Less so with European opposition..
Just my theory. I do not believe it is so much that he doesnt care or doesnt try to progress in the UCL, just that it doesnt work well with the way his teams operate at their best.

^^ If you look at Inters last attempt with Conte, they started most of their top players in every game. Its just not true to state that he rests and rotates. The GK & Defence stays the same, may be 1 change in CM and usually it was Martinez & Lukaku up top.
I think its deeper than just not bothering as team selection does not necessarily support this.
What kind of top manager doesn't go all out in the CL
There's serious money to be made getting to the later rounds.
Given you have squad depth now surely you should be ok on all fronts
I mean you lot have been telling us how good your last couple of transfer windows have been

How much does he prepare for those games tactically? Is the mid week training purely focused on domestic opposition.
They finished behind Gladbach who finished 10th in the Bundesliga and behind a homeless Shakhtar Donetsk.

I think the wording "doesnt take it seriously" is wrong.
As i have pointed out, that Inter team came bottom but it wasnt because he made loads of changes. He put out his A team, so in that respect he took it seriously.
There is less time to prepare and perhaps he's the sort of manager who needs that to flourish. At Chelsea he had no Europe in the season he won the league and was able to keep winning, in fact setting the PL record for consecutive wins. And he made the FA Cup final which is less intrusive in the fixture list than the UCL.
His record is poor but i think it is wrong to say he doesnt take UCL/cups seriously

That said, it will come as no surprise that I agree with the comment. The FA, or whoever agrees the fixtures schedule, should be helping all English teams in Europe, but sadly this will, as usual only apply to certain clubs.
While we are on the subject, does anyone want to bet that City, Liverpool and Chelsea, once again, all avoid each other in the domestic cup draws, at least until the semi's, when they have to play each other ??

maybe he's just come up against good teams after the group stages. I don't think any club owners would accept their manager playing weakened teams in the CL knock out stages.
Maybe he's been unlucky, fack knows but believe me he won't be playing a weakened team in the knock out stages unless its down to game management.

It is the luck of the draw to a degree.
look at GW1 for us....Away to Fulham, the UCL. If thats away to say Bayern and then we have City away. Then another UCL game followed by Leicester(h) That's a killer schedule whoever you are and you need your best, at their best to get results..
We are not quite at the point where we could rest Kane vs Fulham, or swap out Son for Richarlison in the UCL.
Consolidating out league position is key so while we will take the UCL very seriously and the players will want to play, it will be difficult to fight on both fronts if the draw is difficult.
I can't speak for his time at Chelsea, but the criticism of Conte in Italy was that his aggressive training methods made it difficult for Juve to make significant CL progress, particularly in the latter stages as they were just too wiped out.
I think our fans best prepare, if we get a remotely tricky group then we will be going out in the group stages.

How much does he prepare for those games tactically? Is the mid week training purely focused on domestic opposition.
They finished behind Gladbach who finished 10th in the Bundesliga and behind a homeless Shakhtar Donetsk.

So explain his CL record with Juve, Chelsea and Inter - all domestic Champions, made the QF once in his whole career?

Notice how we play all the tougher sides away from home around the CL matches?
But yeah, there's no conspiracy against us
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If I said that, I would get half a dozen people saying "idiot, let's string that Stevef up by his toes within 20 minutes of me posting it.

Indeed, people seem to be missing that. We also went out in the group stage of the Farmers league last year.
