It probably won't hurt too much given we're up from four entrants to five and we will have three group stage of some sort participation at least.

It's still an embarrassment but it shouldn't be disastrous to the coefficient

Great kit though

The more teams we have in, the more the national average gets divided up, so this will have an impact, would have been better off without them

No excuse for that last night. Those Motherwell player should have had their baws booted in training all week for the first leg result. They should have gone out last night with a point to prove.

All they did was prove how pash they were.

It is a sad reflection of the quality of our league last season that Motherwell finished 5th last season despite only winning a game or two in the last few months.

Did I read somewhere that the home teams in the SPFL keep all of the ticket money..? Seems crazy if true.

in europe? yeah ... seems fair to me... its over two legs, If it was over 1 leg then splitting the gate receipts would make more sense.

True. It has been the case since the mid/late 60's when Celtic and Rangers forced the change from the previous 50/50 split.

Still 50/50 for Scottish Cup games iirc

but domestically it makes sense also ... the money should stay with the team that generates it.

In this case the host of the game keeps the money

We had this same debate a week or so ago? Given that the bigger clubs have to build, maintain, ticket, steward and police a larger establishment then it is only correct they should be recompensed fairly for that. 50:50 was unfair on them.

yup this is a better answer . If it costs one of the OF 10x the amount as Ross County to host a game then they should not get an equal split of the income.

That was on Follow Follow mate.

They don't have to do that. It's a matter of choice.

The result though is that Celtic and Rangers basically have no team of any substance to play against apart from each other.

It's only a bizarre interest in those 2 clubs, mainly stimulated by non-footballing matters, that keeps the whole thing going.

Motherwell are so bad. Dundee United have a solid tie so they are done for.

Hearts at least are guaranteed conference

posted on 29/7/22

yeah im not sure this massively hurts the co-effiecient any more than previous years because Hearts will get points for going to the groups stage. Who knows they may even then get a result or 2.

It is embarrassing for Motherwell and Scottish football though, happens every year so used to it now.

And that's the first managerial casualty of the campaign, before the league has even started. Shambles.

Too fooking right they should keep their gate money, how big would you imagine the cost is to put on a game at Celtic Park with 60,000 in attendance compared to Ross County or Livingston?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's a complex question.

I would expect the policing costs directly equate to the number of away fans expected, plus the expectation of trouble.

When United host Ross County for example, we can expect a couple of hundred fans who don't cause problems. This means the club can dramatically cut costs, and even (with agreement) forego police presence entirely.

When United host either side of the old firm, unfortunately that requires a full police operation. These are the only times we see police horses for example. The burden of cost is quite high on clubs for these games.

No idea what police presence is required at CP/Ibrox for the visit of United though. Can't imagine it's substantially increased or decreased as I imagine it's similar for every game?

Besides, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen have healthy populations its should be on those clubs to promote and fill their grounds if they want more ££, especially Aberdeen being a one club city.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dundee has a dwindling population. Around 120k I think.

Also filling grounds is easier when you win things. As Celtic fans will recognise from various periods in your history, attendances drop dramatically when you aren't winning. After four decades of being unable to compete, it's understandable that filling grounds is a challenge.
