It will continue to grow and should continue to grow organically. I remember the UFC female fighter Ronda Rowsey speaking quite well on this as she was the top earner at the time and she commented that the owner didn’t do this ‘as a nice gesture for the ladies but because she brought in the most money.

Simple really

The fee of that article seems to be more about how they can continue to grow the game commercially, whilst retaining the feel of the game as it is. How to expand the reach of the game and the involvement from big investors, to work towards things like equal prize money and pay etc. Not simply asking for equal wages and prizes to the mens game as of today.

Who’s taking the pay cut, the players or the chairman?

If the demand is there and it continues to grow it will be a matter of time before the Premier League take the womens league on too instead of it being it’s own thing.

I don’t think men and women should get equal pay.

The women actually win stuff so should be paid more

I actually watched the semi final and final of the euros and I was delighted when England won. I've got nothing against the women's game.

I do think some people are asking for equal or similar wages regardless of whether the women's game generates the necessary revenue.

As you mentioned, the realistic way for women to get equal pay is to grow the game and eventually generate enough money that they can justify the sort of crazy salaries the PL pays. It certainly won't be easy but this is the only way that makes sense in my eyes.

The demand has to be there it’s simple.

You’d see fckin nerdy virgins on multi million pound contracts if millions of people world wide started watching Robot Wars and big TV companies were bidding against one another to air it on their channels.

The actual article is quite different from the write up under the headline which says:

Improving attendance, tackling inequalities over pay, prize money, coverage and sponsorship will be no quick fix reports BBC Sports editor Dan Roan.

Bring the cost of mens tickets down to the price they’ve been dishing out womens games too, see how long the waiting list is for a ticket then.

Or charge the same for womens games and see if the demand really is there like they keep saying.

As the demand increases, so will the salaries. Very much like the men's game, where I'm sure an awful lot of players would love to be earning what Premier League players earn.

The viewing figures are increasing, now it will be interesting to see if its as a result of social pressure and it being somewhat of a fad, or whether there is genuine passion and interest that continues to grow.

The acid test will be whether there are improved attendances when the WSL season starts in September.

There may well be a small improvement in attendances but there are many fair weather fans of women's football like myself that enjoyed seeing England win something but are very unlikely to actual buy a WSL ticket and travel to a match.

The article doesn’t say that at all, and I really think you need to consider why you read an article like this and see it as a bad thing.

Bizarre.

This will come with sponsorship and the continued development of the WSL.
Also of course the success of National womens team.

Getting in good crowds for England games doesn’t seem to be an issue, the WSL i not finding it so easy.

women should be getting paid equally to men for international footy, given the exposure the game now gets.

Club football though, no chance and plus it’s a club thing.

Same stupid nonsense that virtue signaler rapinoe started.

This isn’t about men v women

We aren’t talking why the male CEO of company X got paid more than his female replacement

Sport is about media, sponsorship, revenue. Has absolutely nothing to do with gender.

When the womens game generates the same money as the mens they’ll get paid.

They’d be better off asking why 88k went to wembley and yet Tottenham who have the highest average attendance by nearly double the closest competitor can only get 8k

This ^

The article doesn’t anywhere, in any way, suggest that women should be paid the same as men.

The OP might ask himself why he’s fabricated a false agenda to pick an argument with.

I think there are two completely different considerations to bear in mind.

On the one hand, it would be ridiculous to demand professional clubs to pay their men’s and women’s teams equal money. None of them would be able to absorb the impact to the men’s wage bill and retain its current level of competitiveness.

On a national FA level, however, the objectives can be very different and fully justify equal pay. If the primary objective is to grow the game as a whole, then it makes perfect sense to give the women’s game as much exposure as possible, and that can be achieved in part by maximising the incentives and rewards. It’s doubtful that it would be anywhere near enough as a standalone measure, but I don’t see any problem with it as part of a broader growth strategy. I don’t even think it ought to be all that controversial, given how many footie fans often air their disgust on the lacklustre performances of the men’s team accusing them of being a bunch of molly-coddled millionaires.

No one is demanding equal pay. There are very reasonable calls for girls at school to get access to playing football (there are still many schools where they are diverted to dance classes and "girls' sports" while the boys play football) from a young age, and for the culture and infrastructure around women's football to general support, rather than hold back their game. Let's not forget that women were playing in front of 50,000 fans at Goodison Park at the time the English FA moved to actively ban women's football, something which was in place for half a century. The legacy of that continues to this day in widespread sneering attitudes that have concrete commercial impacts. And now there are actually males who see the tentative moves to rebalance things to open up more opportunities for women to play professional football as something to be concerned about.

Why shouldn't England women be paid the same as England men on the international stage?

Not club wages, obviously, but I'm all for equal pay for international appearances. Let's not forget that women's football has the highest attendance for any European Championship final in history.
