vidal. Great memories, although I wasn't at that game.

As a seven year-old, I always remember being confused when our 'defender' stepped-up to take the penalties, not realising that Mackay was originally a forward.

Thanks Vidal. Good to see that again.

I was there too and remember it well. In spite of United's stars I recall it being a relatively easy win.

Shows how unfair football is. Brian Kidd was picked for England twice in 1970. Kevin Hector, far better player as you saw on those highlights was never considered until 1974 and then only as substitute. Alf Ramsey had a real prejudice against shorter forwards,, preferred height over pace. Hector should have had at least 20 England caps in his career.

It was 1973 when Hector came on as a sub in the Poland game with a couple of minutes to go and nearly won the game. Ramsey picking a donkey like Hunter over Todd was another nonsense of that time. Mick Channon was a very good player but Hector should still have had far many more caps than Allan Clarke for example. Chivers started the Poland game and he was a very limited player. After Ramsey we continued to make poor selections at international level which cost us badly.

Thanks for finding this Vidal, I've looked at a bit of it and will watch the whole lot tonight.

I was at this match and also went to the Fulham Watney cup game. Wonderful players and to see the great Kevin is brilliant. I hope Mr Clowes invites Kevin to some Rams games.

Couldn't agree more Spart and Vidal, it was a travesty that Kevin didn't get more caps and Alf hardly ever played McFarland and Todd together. I think it was because Alf didn't like BC at all.

Another surprising thing about that game as by the end of the season Carlin, Green and Mackay were all replaced. BC was never sentimental about players if he thought someone else could do a better job.

Season long loan at Carlisle for Jack Stretton.

While I'm sorry Strett has left on loan it does make sense in many respects but I would add the rider that it will only really make sense if another CF-type striker is brought in. Even if Dobbin can play that role I still think we need one more.

Even more disappointing is the fact that Sean Robertson has signed for Forest Green Rovers. I can only think LR did not rate him highly enough so fair dos.

I think FGR offered him first team football whereas for us he would have been down the pecking order.

Cheers Vidal for the video. Watched it all last night. Brilliant commentary on the game. My first game was in 1969 against Sheff Utd at the BBG. I think Alan Durban scored the only goal of the game. I was four days short of my fourth birthday and my dad and uncle put me the kiddies corner in the Normanton End. Although I was born and raised in Nottingham my uncle lived on Cambridge Street, a stone's throw from the ground. The standout memory of my childhood was the night game against Real Madrid in October 1975 when Charlie George scored a hat-trick. It is as vivid today as it was on that cold night with my rattle in hand behind the goal in the Osmaston End.
Wifi reception is not too healthy here in the dessert, but I will try to be tuned in tomorrow at Charlton to see if we can bring home the bacon ( haram)

Regarding Robertson, to be fair we only saw him in one game and, whilst he looked good, even Sammon must have had one good game at some point early in his career. So, whilst I am a bit disappointed (based on one game) there must be a reason Palace let him go and Sheff U didn’t sign him. In Liam we trust 😄
