Team for Brentford

I like the defence, but unsure on Garner starting. However Im not opposed to it seeing how bad McFred are. I don't mind Fred too much, McTominay is awful.

I'd start Garnacho, just because Rashford hasn't been good for 18+ months now, he's regressed unfortunately.

Apparently it's been 451 days since Rashford last scored a PL goal as a starter...

I actually thought Maguire was better than Martinez yesterday at CB and I'm not his biggest fan. Not sure I'd be taking him out of the defence when we play Ivan Toney.

I think that's pretty harsh on Maguire who I didn't think was that bad yesterday. I think we'll need him against Brentford as well who carry an aerial threat.

Perhaps a 3-4-3 of sorts with Varane, Maguire and Martinez (all who are very capable of bringing the ball forward). Dalot and Malacia as the wing backs with Eriksen and Fred in the middle and Bruno, Ronaldo and Sancho as the front three. Bruno gets another chance as he does always get opportunities and I'm hoping he'll find his shooting boots soon.

The game will come to early for FDJ, Arnautovic, Sesko and Rabiot to start...

Yeah I think Fred can be decent, but I just don't think it's doing as any good with the pair of them in there. Need someone who's actually good on the ball in there.

Thats a shocking stat about Rashford

Think I’d play Fred with Eriksen. I honestly don’t think Fred is that bad really; it’s just the McFred partnership I don’t rate for the vast majority of games.

Yes, get Ronaldo in if he’s ready.

I know Ten Hag hasn't played three at the back much apparently but it could be close to a 4-3-3 with one of the CBs pushing into midfield at every opportunity.

He only scored 4 PL goals last season. Sancho scored 3 in the league I think and 2 in cups.

Safe to say these two won't be going to the world cup and nor should they.

Watch Maguire for the first goal, absolutely no awareness of what's around him and commits to doing nothing.

Martinez was shakey after a fairly good start, hardly surprising with the shambles around him and nobody finding and pockets of space for him to pass into. All he had was Maguire square who'd then pass it back to him.

Imagine if ETH makes sweeping changes after 1 game but still goes with McFred

I know it's a terrible thing to say but I'm almost sorry McT didn't get a red card yesterday now.

Rabiot fee agreed so stick him in there for Garner

Maguire wasn't really at fault though. The midfield were appalling and lost the ball firstly. And it was Luke Shaw who had two men to mark. MArtinez was meant to be the left CB not Maguire.

You just want to blame him for everything though I can tell.

Martinez was abysmal yesterday. Welbeck gave him a chasing and he was lucky to stay on the pitch as the penalty should have been given and that could have been a second yellow.

so much wrong with the defending here. Maguire has to be running towards that near post to cut off the square ball. Fred is sort of doing his job and McTomminay seems to have no interest in getting to the edge of the box to cut off any cutback.

Watch the goal, Maguire is in no mans land and doesn't bust a gut to do anything about it.

But Martinez was meant to be the LEFT CB. The goalscorer was free on the right because Shaw had two men to mark. Why is that Maguire's fault?

And don't think I rate Maguire all of a sudden because I certainly don't. I just say what I see. Martinez had a very poor debut.

I thought I read somewhere that Dalot was quick in training drills
The MOTD piece on him last nigh where he barely jogged back for the 2nd goal was pretty damning

Watch the goal back, Martinez has to close down the right hand side because Harry isn't there to do it. This leaves Shaw 2v1 in the middle.

After losing his man initially and seeing Martinez cover for him, Maguire should be cutting off the front post and switching to Martinez's man but he doesn't.

I don't think Maguire is squeaky clean in it but it definitely reeks of blaming it all on him as per usual.

The defending was poor from them all. Martinez did not have a good debut at all despite what some fans want to say. He looked totally lost up and against Danny Welbeck. Lost him for a near post header, should have given a penalty away.

It was the same comedy of errors we were seeing all last season. Personally think it's harsh to lay the blame at somebody making his debut, when he is playing alongside the captain who should be the one barking orders and organising the defence.

It's not solely Maguire's fault, but he has been part of the problem for some time.

Pace isn't everything, but if you don't have it you need to make sure your positioning is correct and his was not.
