None of what has been implemented in the past week was in their 2019 manifesto though, so did the public really vote for it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did anyone vote for a Pandemic or global inflation crisis. It's in response to these issues
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously not but Truss can't talk about having a mandate based on 2019 if she's then going to do a ton of things that were never in that 2019 manifesto, which is why a GE should occur.
You either accept you have no mandate and call for a GE, or base your policies as close as possible on the manifesto that won in 2019.

Nah, the Government had choices. They just chose the wrong ones.
I remember when everyone was up in arm when Jezza wanted to give everyone free internet but people were happy to watch Nick Hancock spunk billions on an app which did not work whilst give his mates multi million pound contracts for PPE.
When Boris hid from Piers Morgan in a fridge I decided then to vote for Labour. Not to mention the racist undertones which lead to Brexit in the first place.

These measures?
Well i can understand the disbelief at lowering the 45% rate and the unleashing of bankers bonuses but in much of the other measures which are being funded by borrowing are an attempt to 1. limit the hit of the energy prices on people and businesses and 2. put money back in everyones & businesses pocket so that they can afford to spend/invest and help to keep the economy going.
In Labours response, they said they would reverse the 45% thing but that is it. That saves £2bn a year. It is an absolute drop in the ocean compared to the £130bn cost of the energy cap. While it is a really badly considered move politically, financially its a fairly cheap one which is, rightly or wrong, aimed at keeping money in the economy to help support it, as is the 1p cut as is the reversal of the NI raise.....which by the way was touted when it was introduced as hitting the poor hardest and now its being reversed it's benefitting the rich the most. Well it cannot be both, people need to see beyond spin.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because in this country, you vote for the Party. The voting slip says Conservative Labour Etc and you stick your little X where you want. The party has the mandate, its very very simple really.
Change is always good as after a while things get stagnant and don’t change, the Tories are getting too comfortable after many years in power.
The Tories sorted stuff out when they got in after the Brown mess, but now they’re in a mess and need out.
Banging on about people voted for the party is a bit nonsense now as the leadership and back benchers have all changed since that vote.
People generally vote due to who the leader is and who their backers are.
Corbyn messed up having Abbott as she just made them look like amateurs with her constant mess ups in the media leading up to the general election.
I don't think people would be complaining about democracy etc if the government were governing for the majority of the electorate.
There is absolutely nothing democratic about what is going on right now. 99.2 per cent of the population did not vote for the current PM, Chancellor or their current policies.
...
Thats the thing many people dont seem to understand.
In this country, nobody votes for the pm or the chancellor or any other member of the cabinet.
The election puts the party in power. What they then choose to do once in is pretty much up to them.
Thats why the electorate really need to be more long sighted than they are when voting.
Im not a huge fan of Starmer, but I like a lot of the depth in the Labour party so would be inclined to overlook the leader in favour of the greater good.
We dont just vote in a PM, we vote in a party. A lot of people seem to forget that and just base it on an American style popularity contest between the leaders.
Because in this country, you vote for the Party. The voting slip says Conservative Labour Etc and you stick your little X where you want. The party has the mandate, its very very simple really.
------------
I know that, but if we're saying you vote for a party and they can then do literally whatever they want and have a mandate, then we may as well scrap manifestos and campaigning altogether and just say do you like the colour blue or red?

It wouldn't be democratic. The people voted for the Tories. Suck it up!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
None of what has been implemented in the past week was in their 2019 manifesto though, so did the public really vote for it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did anyone vote for a Pandemic or global inflation crisis. It's in response to these issues
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes that's why the UK is performing the worst of the comparable nations and it's the UK in particular that just set fire to it's economy in order to give the wealthiest a bit more money
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Stick to the point. These measures were not in the manifesto as they are are in response to extraordinary unforeseen events, so of course no one has voted on them at a GE !
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Tories had a half competent Chancellor in Sunak, they chose to dump him. It's all about right and wrong choices.

What is happening now is due to the thick population of this country. Many of them are white and dumb which is a shame. The media lead them a merry dance and they fell for it hook line and sinker. This is on them..
-------------------------------------------------------------
Woah woah woah....there was no need for that generalisation at the end. Going into the demographics is a messy road and diverts from the main point imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That is what happened though sadly

The likes of Sandy are stuck in their ways, he will vote Liebour no matter what, even in the face of complete incompetence and the likes of Blair and Brown bankrupting the country.
Their is zero guarantee the Liebour Party will do a better job than the Tories, and with their track record they could in fact do a lot worse.
Have you seen how grammatically poor that Angela Raynor is, it makes me wonder how she made it to become an MP, do we really want people like that running the country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Billy, and you will always vote Tory, however bad it gets. So what's your point?

The Tories did not have the bottle to make an Indian as PM. Instead they went for a middle aged drunk woman . Classic.

But these aren't necessary measures due to the pandemic or global supply issues.
This is an opportunistic grab from a morally bankrupt set of caaants under an excuse of real issues.
As I said these aren't moves being made by comparable countries and the UK IS fairing worse due to it's shoddy and frankly evil government
----------------------------------------------------------------------
These measures?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The mandate being that the Tories were voted in. One cannot expect a GE everytime something like a Pandemic or a War or a Financial crisis hits when policy has to evolve and develop in the moment and in response to unforeseen events!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No but nobody voted for Truss and nobody voted for Truss' policies, so how exactly can she claim she personally has a mandate?

I know that, but if we're saying you vote for a party and they can then do literally whatever they want and have a mandate, then we may as well scrap manifestos and campaigning altogether and just say do you like the colour blue or red?

Well no, I vote for who I think will do the best job at the time.
The point is, why do you feel the need to post horrendous political articles on an almost weekly basis, which adds nothing to the site other than to attract all the racists on here, a lot of morons and all the people with a chip on their shoulder.
Nothing is going to change in the short term, so why bother. Most people want what is best for themselves and nobody else, see some of the mug comments on this thread for all the proof you need.
