I’m sure he’d have wanted to go out with a bang tonight. Suppose a home thrashing is one way of doing that

Be interested to see how Fabio gets on tomorrow night. Anderlecht at home to West Ham which I presume will be televised

Must admit I share some reservations about Lopetegui possibly needing a bit of breathing space before taking a new job, Nuno at Spurs comes immediately to mind. His record at Seville had been very good though.

Getting absolutely battered by Dortmund right now though, regardless of interest from us can see him getting the boot in the morning.

Didn't even last that long, Andalusia to a winter in Wolverhampton. Poor sod.

Officially fired already

Brucie must be on the brink too, back in the rellie zone, blues not much above them and Coventry rooted to the bottom. Terrible start to the season for the West Midlands clubs.

Well. if we do go for Lopetegui at least we save a few quid in compensation.

Should have played Rafa Mir more often.

Seems just a matter of time before Lopetegui is announced. He has left Seville. From the other targets Amorim has said he wants to stay at Sporting and Pedro Martins is going to Hull

I cannot get excited at the prospect of Lopetegui becoming our new head coach. Although he did well at Seville last season, this season they are in the same dire straits that Wolves are. His spell as the Spanish national coach was a disaster getting sacked on the eve of the 2018 world cup after just 2 years in charge. He then went to Real Madrid where he lasted just 4 months.
If Lopetegui cannot save Seville from relegation what makes anyone think that he can save Wolves from the same fate? After all it was Lopetegui's Seville that knocked Wolves out of the Europa League just a couple of seasons ago.
This deal has once again got the distinct odour of Jorge Mendez who has undoubtedly has got more to gain from the deal than either Wolves or Lopetegui himself.

Seville fans evidently gave Lopetegui a rousing send off last night despite their loss to Dortmund and poor start to the league season. This season has been poor. After they ran into financial problems and sold £80m worth of players in the summer and replaced them with £25m worth.

I think it says more about the manager if you look at his first 160 games with Seville rather than the last 8. Three times 4th in the Spanish top flight and winning the Europa league. I’d settle for that in England

Lopetegui is a good manager, no doubt about that at all.
Had three excellent years and the start of this season the only blip

Where does it say he was relegated?
Why are you always so confrontational with every post I put up?

I'm not.

You said 'If Lopetegui cannot save Seville from relegation what makes anyone think that he can save Wolves from the same fate?'

I just asked when he was relegated with them. They aren't even in the relegation zone now. They may be on a bad run but they have just had a run of games against Man City, Barcelona, Atletico and Dortmund. I don't think they are in danger of relegation personally.

Yes you are.

I'll explain it in simple terms for you.

Seville are currently just above the relegation zone. Obviously the Seville management don't think that he is capable of moving them up the league table which is why they have sacked him. So why on earth would Fosun believe that he is the right man to get Wolves out of the position they are in?

There is that clear enough for you?

posted on 6/10/22

OK Gem.

Why are you so inflammatory with me but not Spangles who told you to look at his first 160 games not his last 8? Seems like it is actually you that has the problem with me.

What you miss from that is that the Seville management didn't hesitate in ripping the heart out of his team (he didn't do that himself) & expect him to get the same results with inferior playes - at least we managed to get better players in after the boss himself ripped the heart out of our team

To me that is the most damning factor with Bruno. I think we bought in really good players this summer in Nunes, Guedes, Collins and Traore yet the team hasn’t improved at all. We didn’t manage to add the striker we needed but nevertheless with very good players added we should have seen some benefit.

posted on 6/10/22

I don't think Bruno was the only factor holding us back, but he certainly should have been able to get more out of these players attacking wise than he has managed. The lack of answers he had to our problems in the final third is what cost him as it became obvious he didn't know how to solve it.

Nice easy game for Man Utd in Europe tonight against Nicosia. They were 1/6 to win and in the first half had 76% possession. Half time - Nicosia 1 Utd 0

Whoever the new manager is, I hope Mendes is not involved as it's time to move on from him.

If it is Lopetegui Mendes will be heavily involved as he is Lopetegui's agent.

posted on 6/10/22

It would be terrible if Mendes was involved after he’s played a part in giving us the strongest team we’ve had in 40 years

Perhaps the most significant stat concerning Lopi's time at Seville is that of the 4 times in the last 25 seasons that Seville got 70 or more points 3 were with Lopi as coach.

Strongest team in 40 years and 18th in the Premier League. There must be other good players and managers that aren't from Portugal. No doubt they're good players, individually, but they are not working as a TEAM.
