Walked out as Captain as we were preparing for a World Cup finals and you have the cheek to call him one of the greatest Irish sportsmen of all time.
Give your head a wobble fella, god you do write some crap article’s.
And frequently which is embarrassing for the respected Irish contributor’s on JA.
Wind your neck in.

He is its not even up for debate, his actions led to real change in Irish football.

They need to get rid of Richard and Redknapp as well. All awful pundits.
Whether we play well or badly, all he ever banged on about is the ‘bare minimum’ of showing heart and desire, putting a foot in, wanting it more than the other side etc.
Then we beat Spurs, but besides actually playing nice football, we bossed them in every 50/50, first to every ball, sticking the boot in, pressing them for every challenge right up to the last minute, and all he said about it was that Spurs were poor.
It’s classic shiyte punditry, made his mind up on some matters and now has to validate those opinions all season no matter what happens. Does it on most things.
There’s no way he’s actually clueless enough about the game and how we’ve been playing to think we have played better with Ronaldo starting this season, but he can’t change his opinion now.
Savage is the same, makes a point early on when commentating on a game then uses any instance to try and back it up.
Neville used to be like it but has somewhat improved now and is willing to admit when he’s got something wrong.

His stance on Spurs has remained consistent. He believes beating them is a given.
Mike, yeah that sums him up. It’s proper boomer punditry.
I don’t mind Keane as a pundit. Not hugely insightful but far better than Redknapp or any that rubbish on BT.
Best pundit I’ve seen in recent years is Mourinho. Shame he didn’t stick at it for a bit longer.
I’d rather listen to Michael Owen than Roy Keane.

Won’t be long until Ronaldo is gone Process, just hang in there, will be a bit longer for Hafi with Degea.

Be interesting to see if he starts Thursday
I find 90% of punditry to be quite poor in general. I know it makes sense to have ex-pro players in punditry roles to a decent extent but I genuinely don't find that many of them to be tactically insightful or knowledgable beyond what a reasonably well-studied non-pro player often can be.
You don't have to have played at pro-level to have a high-level understanding of the game; Benitez & Mourinho are two prime examples. There are others like Carlos Queiroz, Carlos Alberto Parreira, Houllier, Hodgson, Sacchi. Actually there's quite a lot! And we've seen plenty of pundits down the years who clearly aren't the best students of the game even if they were excellent players. I'm sure we've all played at amateur level with or against players who are very, very talented and stand out among their peers on the pitch, but they're not exactly the brightest of sparks or particularly intelligent thinkers on the game (or anything else sometimes!). The same is exactly the true at all levels of the game. Some people understand it to better degree than others. It's a simple as that really.
I find you get quite a fair amount of better insight among some of the fan channels and even on here sometimes (sometimes!). I've never really gotten into the podcast craze but it sounds as though there's plenty of great analysis out there and there's lots of good video analysis on YT etc...
Finally, on Keane/Ronaldo... What's missing from the discourse is the simple fact of the matter that Ronaldo has been pants this season, looks well short of where he was last season and isn't going to be a United player long term even under the best of circumstances given his age. Ne need to pander to him at all.

The thing is, pundits nowadays is a lot to do with entertainment as well. I would rather listen to an ex top class pro who has a bit of banter but shocking knowledge (Micah Richards) over a bunch of average ex pros who know what they’re talking about. Don’t really care for football tactical insights, a lot of it is quite obvious and the pundits mainly point out the obvious!
