Do you think Conte is picking Royale over Spence for any other reason other than he thinks he’s better?

I just don’t get it. The guy sees Royale, Doherty and Spence every day in training and picks the one who performs the best.

That's a fair comment, but how about looking at how he actually performs on match days too?!

I doubt Spence can be any worse that Royale and I'll even stick my neck out to say that I think he'll be better.

I think he could be far worse defensively.
Which, if you think about how shaky the back three are, could be why.
Royale, for all his faults going forward, is quite solid defensively.

Look how weak Sessegnon is - if we had another pu$$y wing back, we might be shipping more goals.

Spence might be amazing going forward and push the opposition back with his threat? I thought the same was supposed to be true of Sess.

I want Spence to be the answer but if Conte can’t see it, you can’t really argue.

Its one of the biggest flaws with Conte. Playing a 343 when both wingbacks (Royal and Sess) in particular are so poor in the final 3rd makes us totally ineffective.

It's one of the major strengths of that formation but there's no point playing it if you don't have the right players. It's one of the major reasons why Kane and Son struggle to get the ball in good areas as we have no width. Opposition FBs push up on us meaning we are outnumbered in midfield because we carry no threat in wide areas

Not giving Spence a chance is a joke & quite frankly poor management.... Wrong tactics, wrong approach, wrong selection of players.... We could be getting so much more out of this team if Conte would try something different. Seeing Royal play for Spurs is frankly embarrassing

The Only role Royal should have at Spurs if off the bench as a back up right sided CB in a back 3. He's tall, physical, quick and fractionally better than Sanchez (not saying much). He could play as a RB in a back 4 but that aint happening

He's a better defender.. Thats why Conte picks him.., says everything about Conte..... WB should be an attacking position when played properly.... Thats why we have 3 CBs and PEH !

He`s a crap RWB, you can see that sometimes our players are reluctant to pass the ball to him, because they know he will not do anything useful with it.

It is puzzling why Conte persists with him in that role, I reckon he could make a decent back up RCB to Romero, he has the physique, decent in the air and he won`t need to get involved going forward very much.

I actually think Royal links up well with Kulusevski but without Kulusevski, he does nothing going forward.

Doherty, although used sparingly this season has looked far more of a goal threat.

Would like to see Spence.

If we had a defence of Royal, Doherty and Trent Alexander Arnold, I'm convinced Trent would also be the one out in the cold. Now that's staggering given his talent but Conte is so pre-occupied with defensive stability, he's utterly blind to what players offer going forward. Our wingbacks have 3 centre halves and two deep lying midfielders to cover them so they should only be picked for their attacking abilities, not how robust they are at the back.

It's part of the reason why Conte is beginning to really frustrate the fan base. He's got to take a shackles off a bit but he won't. If we want to do that, we need someone else in charge.

Paratici has been getting away with it for ages now. I'm surprised he's not under more scrutiny for the duds he's signed. Although Gil looked more promising last night.

Cos he was a joint signing between Betis and Barcelona, which he was to play for Betis and Barcelona could sign him for that low fee when they wanted.

IMO the worst player of the top 6 sides. Or atleast one whos in the team.

Just looked on Transfermarket and it looks really weird:

Barca paid £10.8mil in Jan 2019
Betis paid £5.4mil in Feb 2019
Barca paid £12.6mil in July 2021

Then Spurs come along with £22.5 + 4.5 add ons in Aug 2021
