I think Americans will just have to accept that their country will remain the most dangerous on earth in terms of shootings. No meaningful or sensible gun control will ever come in so going out with the fear of being shot is an occupational hazard.

Must be awful to live with that amount of fear.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You don’t even think about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, much as guns are a problem you are much more likely to face acts of violence in the UK on a daily basis

Is that true? Do you have a source fir this?

Also what do you mean by ‘acts of violence’? You know knife crime is statistically worse in the US as well, something like 3.9 deaths in every 100,000 in the US to 2.4 here

I'd also be curious to see these comparative statistics that show violence in the UK is 'much more' common.

That said, I don't believe the (unacceptably high) gun violence levels in the US doesn’t mean people live in fear. The human psyche is wired to get used to high levels of danger. When I lived in Russia in the 90s the murder rate was higher than in the States today. No one lived in fear, and I quickly got used to the knowledge.

Haven't looked for a few years but yeah, before violent crime, assault, robbery, antisocial behaviour etc was higher in the uk for sure.

I mean, in the UK you will see issues in just about any town in the country over a weekend but you will rarely see any issues like that in the US anywhere outside of a big city.

Speaking from my own experience, having lived in the US 12 years now and drank in some pretty hard toguh places like over-the-rhine, Cincinati, East St Louis and all over NYC I have NEVER seen a single scrap or row yet but I have seen multiple incidents in the UK just in two week visits.

If I can be assed later I shall take a look.

Every now and then the sheer size of the US hits me.

Like this shooting today was over 2000 miles away from me whereas you guys are all much closer than that to an actual war going on in Ukraine.

The US actually has a higher murder rate, crime rate and serious assault rate than the UK.

In 2022 it is below the UK in the safety index.

Must be on a downward trend then as that definitely wasn't the case a few years ago. That said, no doubt the US is a grim place right now since the trump effect took hold. Respect gone well out the window

The Jim Jefferies gun control thing is always worth watching . One day Americans might actually understand it

only thing I can see is that the UK has three times the crime than the US overall. Not just violent stuff though.

UK Total crimes per 1000 109.96
Ranked 4th. 3 times more than United States

USA 41.29
Ranked 22nd.

The gun crime thing is so ridiculous, how the fack we can have at least one mass shooting a day and do nothing about it is outrageous. Sandy Hook was the moment and they did NOTHING.

World safety index ranks UK at 38th safest country in the world and the US in 65th. Qatar is 7th which makes the all the western propaganda towards them atm seem a bit silly. Qatar is much much safer place than the Western heavyweights yet they should be like us Top 5 are

Iceland
Switzerland
Finland
Portugal
Austria

That the US(UN) caused...........and is funding to the hilt?
The US gun laws are there to protect the people from the Govt.
History shows that they are needed now more than ever.
