Probably one of Britain’s greatest ever sportsmen.

One of the greats. Fast bowlers are supposed to last this long at the highest level.

Read yesterday he's now the first Test bowler in history to pick up 400 wickets since turning 30, that too at an average of 23.

Remarkable consistency.

Great bowler over many years, wonderful skills.

He's a legend who doesn't look like he wants to slow down any time soon. The way he sees things now is that he can't have a bad game because if he does, the calls for him to retire because he's on the decline will come from all angles. Even when England are bad, he never really is, even if he's not taking many wickets.

Most think he will finish after the Ashes but he doesn't seem the type to want a big hurrah where he walks off the field at Edgbaston for the last time at Lords for the last time etc.

The stat about him taking all those wickets since he's turned 30 just shows that he's a better bowler now at 40 than he was at 30.

He has actually got better with age. Has a nice smooth action and doesn't rely on pace. No reason why he cannot continue to be an England player for another two years.

If any sportsman ever deserved a Knighthood for services to his sport, it's Jimmy.

Have a read of just what a great test it was, and how good James is.

Yeah I read this but I remember hearing Zalts produce a lot of these stats as the game went on but it shows why it was such an incredible effort.

Yes it was a flat pitch but there have been hundreds of test matches played on flat pitches. The rate at which England scored their runs was seriously impressive. How often do you see a team bat at 3 an over to rack up the runs, only to falter as soon as they play a few more shots to score quick runs?

The bowling effort was great too with contributions from everyone especially given Livingstone couldn't bowl and his FC record isn't too bad.

To miserable to be a great. Good bowler, but he is always so grumpy. Someone needs to tell him it's a team game, and not a sport for individuals. His face when a teammate drops one of his bowling.

Stick to Anderson and not about me. Anderson has to be the most miserable sportsman in the world.

It is a normal trait of fast bowlers and part of the act of intimidating the batsmen. Stuart Broad was one of the few that ever smiled.

...and the top two fast bowlers in test match cricket of all time are
1 Jimmy Anderson
2 Stuart Broad
ahead of such greats as Glenn McGrath (Aus), Courtney Walsh (WI), Dale Steyn (SA), Kapil Dev (Ind), Richard Hadlee (NZ), Wasim Akram (PAK) who during games were always a laugh a minute.

He's actually a top bloke and a massive team player, sure he can get annoyed when one goes down off his bowling. Too miserable to be a great that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on here.

As a league cricketer, there is nothing worse for a bowler when you toil away all day and see a dolly of a catch dropped, a catch so easy you could have caught it yourself in the crack of your arce. So bowlers have a right to be miserable under these circumstances, especially the likes of Anderson, who have incredibly high standards.
