I think that’s something Southgate needs to learn. We’re very much set up not to go behind, when we do he is clueless in how to change a game.

We also have no idea how to use Harry Kane. If he’s going to come so deep we either need wingers running into the space or somebody leading the line.

Saka was an odd one. Grealish would have made no difference at all, probably slowed things up. Saka though should have stayed on

His substitutions were pretty basic, pre-planned and not really game changing. Saka came off about the same time every game.
Choosing Sterling over Rashford is a bit more confusing than taking off Saka, given the United man is in form added to the fact Sterling has been out the squad for a few days.

Didn't see the last 20m but did he even consider putting slab at CF for a knockdown?

Please, for the love of god, will people stop going on about Grealish as if he is an answer to anything. He is one of the most over rated players out there.

He is totally incapable of riding a tackle. If he could stay on his feet he would be a lot more use as a player.

This. Savior of England in the euros according to commentators. . Rice is another massively overated player. Bellingham looks the real deal though, he’s impressed me.

He's gutless. Too afraid to tell Kane where to play or take him off no matter how ineffective he is.

Same could be said of Saka.

I don't think he was as responsible for us losing this than the previous tournaments, but those subs were iffy. I cringed when I saw that Mount was coming on. At least he won a pen I suppose.

Southgate has always had question marks around his subs and the timing of them in tournaments and this is no different.

Can't imagine we change Southgate until the next Euro's...which is 18 moths away

Unsure who we'd employ anyway...we need to keep it English

To be fair I still don't see the hype around Bellingham either. He's a good young player , talented beyond his years but I've never been particularly blown away by him like everybody in the country claims to be.
He just doesn't make as many mistakes as the players around him on the England team perhaps that's why he seems to stand out to people out there.
Tchouameni has been outstanding for France in this world cup but I very much doubt he's being labeled "world class" in the french media.
That's the difference. We hype up our young players for fun in this country.
Bellingham might very well become world class one day but he ain't there just yet<doh@.

Eddie Howe once Newcastle go for a higher profile manager.

Southgate went into the tournament not knowing his strongest team and his love affair with Mount was very strange. Mount was lucky to be even in the squad imo.

He was definitely obsessed with Mount it seems.
Same with Potter at Chelsea.
Not sure what they see in him that the rest of us don't.

I would say he is lucky to be in the Chelsea team. He wouldn’t be a starter for us.

Mount is the new James Milner. He had far too many caps than he deserved based on being a good guy who works hard and does exactly what the manager wants. But don't expect much quality on the pitch from them.

Way more than he is worth. The one flaw to his game, imo, which may develop with better coaching than Moyes and Southgate are capable of, are awareness of what is around him and turning to face up field when receiving the ball from the CB’s.

Too often he passes back the way he faces or to a fb who is marked.

-------------------
That's a failure from the manager then. He has been working with the same group of players for how long now? And Apart from Reece, were there another key player missing through injury?

Perhaps, but with 15 minutes left needing a goal, you’d prefer any of Grealish, Maddison, Rashford, Trent to score or create a chance ahead of Mount and Sterling.

Most managers know like 8 of their starters. Nothing unusual about that. German manager made a ridiculous number of changes and tactical switches from match to match. For conservative managers who are set in a long-developed plan, it can be counterproductive - as I thought it was for Spain. And to a lesser extent, France who often produce insipid football under a manager that takes no risks. Was only forced to make changes this tournament due to the number of injuries they had.
