Lack of investment over a sustained period will always catch up with you eventually. We have a squad that is well beyond its best and seemingly owners who refuse to finance the start of the next squad.
Just one midfielder would immeasurably paper over the cracks in the short term but even that won’t be financed. Really depressing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed Neo. We need new owners now. Look at Tood Boehly at Chelsea. Comes in and does as promised. Gave them a shed load of money to invest in tbe squad. That's what we need

That's down to Potter though. We're talking about proper owners who invest money into the squad.
PSG, City, Newcastle, Chelsea. These are the owners we need to move forward
They were poor under Tuchel as well. Chelsea’s recruitment under their new owners has been terrible.
Yes Chelsea are not the blueprint for any club to run business.
They’re spending money here, there and everywhere, Todd Boehly hasn’t a clue, but then I would never want to do it that way anyway.
All we ask of the owners is to back the manager when he needs it, that have brought in Gakpo, Nunez and Diaz but now we need to really make a statement and improve an area we haven’t improved for 4/5 years.
It's pretty clear Madrid broke you.
Look at Tood Boehly at Chelsea. Comes in and does as promised. Gave them a shed load of money to invest in tbe squad. That's what we need
--------------------------------------------------------
It's a double edged sword. Trust me.
Klopp surely deserves some blame for the issues in midfield. Especially when he’s setting the team up to play such a high line. Unless you are telling me that club ignore him and try to extend Keita and Ox’s contracts without his say so.

Reminds me of when FSG first took over here and bought the likes of Downing and Carroll based on their moneyball approach. Money makes no difference unless you have the people that know how to spend it.

While you have Klopp you don't need that. You just need an owner who will do more than the bare minimum.
For instance, Enzo Fernandez, we're getting him (and three others this week cos Boehly's rabid lol). While he'd definitely help us for the money being discussed it's not the most pressing concern. For you he'd be MUCH more valuable & possibly worth the money. You need an owner who'll identify these things & not haggle.

Moneyball in itself is at least a concept, we're completely random atm. If you play football professionally & have a working pulse, chances are Chelsea have made contact with you since the summer

Chelsea need to be very careful atm, they are bringing so many players in and when has that ever worked?
Successful teams have always had a consistent team with a spine of 4/5 players, leaders. Potter doesn’t know his best team, he’s got an owner who hasn’t a clue what he is doing!

That was KKKenny wanting to build a young English side, rather than moneyball.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That may have been an additional factor but the stat gurus and Damien Commoli worked out chances created from Downings crosses were higher than for any other prem player in the season prior to signing him. Just shows how much stats can skew things.
Yeah but I don’t think that’s a moneyball thing. Scouts will always look at certain stats when assessing players, especially in attack. Those signings go against moneyball because they were looking at two players in attack and massively overvaluing their stats. The opposite of moneyball.
Never seen the film or whatever so just assumed that was what it was. Either way point still stands, clueless people in the wrong football positions waste money and that’s what we had in FSGs early years. May be the same with Boehly.
Yeah I agree with that. It looks like they are just trying to hoard a load of highly rated young players and hope they come good.
My point is that Boehly is investing in the squad. Whether they're the right players isn't the issue here. He knows the playing squad needs improving, and he's doing everything he can to rectify it. We could have an injury crisis forcing us to play the Under 16s and FSG would still say there's no money available. Boehly and the Sheikh would never let that happen.
