I reckon we will not sign a defender until the summer unless someone becomes available in January.
The 3 or 4 CB targets we wanted last summer might not be available right now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why didn’t we buy them last summer?
These players are always available, if someone offers us £250m for Kane tomorrow then he is gone. We wallop £100m down for Skriniar - yes we’re paying over the odds- but the deal definitely happens.
We’re in Jan and have no signings - seemingly we spent the pre window period doing faack all towards recruitment - again
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Strike mug calm down. Skiniar is avilable for free in the summer. He holds the aces. Do you not think we have overpaid on Ndombele, GLC, Sanchez, Emerson and list goes on and on...

Proof will be in the pudding mate !! If they b()gger around as per usual, deliver a couple of crappy loan signings and then announce record profit then then deserve to be hammered (And I'm sure Conte will). If they have a good window, fly bellow the radar, deliver what we all know we need and then announce great numbers... Fair play to them
Personally, I still think we stuck between a "rock & hard place" with this Conte contract stand off and that remains the biggest issue
I have no doubt the club's finances are in great shape post covid but we all know that doesn't mean much given our failings on the pitch over the past 30 years !!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That will be the excuse - we didn’t buy a CB to improve our league 1 defence because Conte wouldn’t commit - ignoring that Paratici is the director of football and whoever the manager is will not get a faaaacking thing out of this tuuuurd defence
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep.... Thats the issue (Not the state of the books) Why would any top player sign for us when the future of the manager is uncertain beyond this year (Whether you like him or not)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet Chelsea will spend, Everton, Southampton - Spurs buying competent CB’s is irrelevant to whether Conte stays or not, we can’t keep conceding like we do, we can’t afford for Eric Dier to statistically make more errors than any other defender in the league
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Spurs buying competent CB’s is irrelevant to whether Conte stays or not"........ Nonsense
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope I’m right:
Paratici buys the players and our defence is shiiit. So why does Conte being there or not effect signing CB’s.
If Conte goes tomorrow the new man will take one training session before bursting into Levy’s office and saying “I think I’ve made a terrible mistake, I just saw Eric Dier play”.
We could have all out attack Ossie back and the first thing he would want to do is buy a CB
I would have thought that the club will have at least £50m to spend in this transfer window,.,
A lot more to spend in the summer transfer window…
Levy isn’t stupid.,, he’ll know that he’ll get unlimited abuse, if he doesn’t cough up,.,
Not to mention money from player sales…
We shall see…

I don’t want to do that, the point is that these players are always available at the right price. Chelsea are schitt, but Enzo Fernandes is theirs for £130m. There is always a price.
With Skriniar out of contract in the Summer, would Inter say no to £25m now? £10m signing on fee for Skriniar - get him now before City/Chelsea/United.
Or we can spend faaack all and then blame Conte for only managing 4th with Eric Dier

Not at the prices Levy will want. If Lo Celso and Ndombele are priced at £20m they go - both have been good on loan. Davies £10m to another Prem side, ditto Sanchez and Dier.
Sess who knows, Royal we won’t be able to give away
Buy cheap buy twice - Levy never learns this.
We may have to ride this transfer window out, regarding centre backs…
Skriniar is the one…. He’s definitely worth waiting for
Get in NDicka too… another freebie
Dumfries or Porro as RWB…
We’ve got NDoggie coming in as LWB…
Sell Skipp… as we now have Sarr
Trossard as cover for the wings…
I honestly don’t think we will get anyone of major quality in this transfer window… it’s just notoriously difficult in the Jan transfer market…

I'd go all out for Porro, De Vrij & James Maddison this Jan window....wait for the summer to try and get Skriniar and sell as many of our defenders as poss. Would defo sell Sanchez, Royal, NDombele, GLC and probably loan Skipp and Spense if poss
Don,
you remind me of my wife when we went house hunting, gushing about the property we were looking at, saying stuff like "its perfect" "our dining table would go beautifully here" etc, in front of the agent who would have clearly said to the sellers "these guys love this house so dont budge on the asking price".
If you think about your accusation, then what you are saying is that our figures are not being released to hide from fans the profits being made and avoid any accusations of being cheap in the window....but that would only be a short term thing. They have to be published by 31st March so they will be public viewing and if they are indeed penny pinching then the truth will out in time!
But what is more likely is one or both of the following:
If we have pots of cash sloshing around then it does not help buying/negotiations if that is public knowledge. We will get screwed over.
The other factor is management of expectations. So YES we may have money sloshing around but that does not necessarily make Jan the best time to spend it. We all know we need 2 x CBs, AM/CM, RWB at the bare minimum , and we all know they need to be quality. What does quality cost? Maybe £40-£50m a head. So that's what, £200m or more needed to get us in a place to challenge?!
To ensure we get the best players we can possibly afford, we still need to get decent deals done, negotiate hard. There's no point blowing our load on a one CB if it means we can afford little else.
Fans like you would look at our financial figures and then use it to attack the club if we dont go out and spend massively in January. WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT is the right deals get done and that within whatever budget we have, we improve all the areas that need to be improved.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Romero wasn’t really a traditional loan signing - we were obligated to buy regardless, it was just a way of paying later plus because he was technically he was a Juve player on loan to Atalanta we had to get creative a bit.
Godson Fernandes was a recent loan
It's always complicated with Spurs and Levy?
Liverpool identified VdV and Allisson, they went out and put the money on the table and the seller didn't even quibble. No ifs no buts. Because we go in very low, and try to haggle the selling clubs just don't want to know, and the usual the player is not available or is waiting for summer before making the decision?
If we go in and grab Skriniar and pay well and then get Tossard and pay well, we get them both. Nothing more or less.
Even though we may pay over the odds a bit, by buying we ensure we take the players off the market, so other clubs won't get them and when these players help us to get better positions in the league and get more income in, the offset is complete?
Why is it such a negative thing to go and pay what the player is worth?
Just a cheapskate ran club.
Liverpool chased VVD for at least 2 windows and broke the world record transfer fee for a defender. It was not simple at all.

Don,
you remind me of my wife when we went house hunting, gushing about the property we were looking at, saying stuff like "its perfect" "our dining table would go beautifully here" etc, in front of the agent who would have clearly said to the sellers "these guys love this house so dont budge on the asking price".
