Why not Wilfred Zaha ???

Palace would rather he left for a free than sell him mid season for a paltry £10m.
Plus Zaha would no doubt prefer to wait to maximise his own situation.
So there are two downsides already, before getting into his character, age and previous flop.

Palace aren’t going to sell Zaha for £10m when there’s a chance they could get relegated even with him.

It's a signing that makes sence but won't happen.

Emery was the one that wanted him.

Palace are mid-table, they don't look like getting relegated, if it's £10m or £0 I think they might go for it, especially if they think Zaha will throw his toys out the pram if they stop him leaving again...

Zaha can play both wings and as a striker.

Unfortunately his age doesn't quite fit the Arteta model

7 points off bottom ain't comfortable, certainly not a position where you let your biggest threat go for cheap as chips with little money or time to replace him.

Where did you get £10m from?

They are in really poor form. They haven’t beaten any team in the top half and their next 9 games are against 8 top half teams and Villa. They’ll get dragged into things, especially without Zaha who has scored or assisted 8 of their 17 league goals. They’d take nothing to stay in the prem over a paltry £10m.

No chance Palace would take 10m

Also don't think he'd be worth taking on even if free but with the high wages that sort of transfer always requires.

We're building a young side and it's not like Zaha would even bring an experienced head used to the pressures of competing for major trophies

Did they though.

Arsenal's was with add-ons that Shakhtar felt were unachievable so technically they did but they planned on paying less than Chelsea have paid.

Yeah the ceo come out and basically said as much. Also mudryk only on about 97k a week compared to the 200k some were saying.
So yeah nothing really in it at all.

So silly comment above really.

The CEO said the bids were the same but the structure was not and some of Arsenal's add-ons were pie in the sky and Chelsea's was a much more serious offer with guarantees.

So as much as they did offer the same, the likelihood is Arsenal would never have ended up paying out the same amount, that was the point he makes in the interview.

posted on 18/1/23

Yeah which is silly really. As it’s all hypothetical. So as of now Chelsea offered the same.
If chelsea win a pl or cl (not likely) then it is all relative. Maybe arsenal should have offered something like that especially considering the run they are on.

Not much between the deals at all. Silly comment from fik

Chelsea also offered <cough> friendlies and the use of their stadium for CL matches etc. which could not be held in Ukraine. So when you add it all up it will be £20m+ in kind payments.

His age is the main reason. He may only got 2 years left of playing at level he’s at realistically. He might be a player who can sustain his form and main attributes into mid 30s, but that’s more rare than common. He’d see a move in January or the summer as his last big pay day, so we could potentially be left in 2 years time with a declining player on big wages with still 2/3 years left, meaning that we can’t sell to anyone. This might block us improving the squad further

I’m not against the player, but I’d imagine his age and wages would be the issue. If he accepted 2 years with option of extension, then that might be feasible for the club. But I’d imagine he’d be after 4 years at least

I’d rather we went for Olise, Tielemens, recalled Balogun and and go big for Rice in the summer

Zaha was awful yesterday
Olise is apparently an ex academy player, bring him home i say
