Our economy is growing slower than in Russia

I wouldn't trust a brexiteer to make a cup of tea. The data was there and they didn't want to hear it.

So remainers are ok with cheap labour?

Very interesting take on the economy.

posted on 6/2/23

The lack of cheap labour is further fuelling rampant inflation.

Just had some great financial news though, couldn't have come at a better time with the cost of living crisis.

The kid I sponsored in Africa has been eaten by a lion.

We're not in the EU anymore and are now standing alone in a global market where labour is considerably cheaper than it is here in UK. How do we stay competitive?

Wages going up might seem good on the face of it but the cost of living is soaring so we're no better off and all it's doing is putting the prices of everything we make up which will make us less attractive in the export market surely? People will just simply look for cheaper alternatives elsewhere.

Our economy is tanking. Brexit is a huge reason for it. You were lied to. You were morons for believing these people who had hidden agendas.

You know, in Ireland a lot of Irish people don't want to take up jobs at fast food restaurants, or cleaning jobs, or whatever they think is beneath them, so these jobs are happily taken by EU nationals. And then, like in the UK, they complain that the foreigners take all the jobs. The jobs they couldnt be arrsed to do themselves.

posted on 6/2/23

The unemployed (those fit to work) shouldn’t be given the option of choosing if to work or not. The Job Centre should place a person within a job, and then any benefits witheld unless the employment ends through no fault of the employee.

The EU does not legislate for the UK (wages) labour market. The EU did however bring in the posted workers directive which ensures a worker being paid X in Portugal, when moves to Spain, they still get paid X. The UK government chose to opt out of this directive as part of the TCA/WA.

This isn't exactly true. A lot of those who voted Brexit never saw the data.

Both Cameron and the Tory Remainers (of which there were plenty) and the Labour party arrogantly thought the vote would go to remain and thus didn't bother campaigning to remain with much gusto.

So a lot of what we all know now was not common knowledge to your average voter. They have said this on multiple occasions.

A major, major problem with the remain side is that one of the massive benefits to the EU is that it protected us from our own incompetent, corrupt and undemocratic government. Kind of difficult to argue that as a positive when you're the two big players in said corrupt, incompetent and undemocratic government.

As part of the Brexit anniversary coverage some of the old Vote Leave adverts were doing the rounds on social media.

The in/out NHS waiting lists adverts were shameful. Hard to believe so many people were duped by them.

It isnt hard to believe at all. I see it first hand every day with Trump supporters. It isnt any different, I am sure, in the UK.

If you do not try to educate these morons then you have to accept the end results.

You have to keep hammering it in to these people that what they are voting for does not benefit them what so ever.

Some of the MAGA stuff is brilliant. That Hilary Clinton is an alien, or Biden a robot (although from some of his public addresses, a not very well maintained robot!)

………

The poorest States in the USA are mostly Republican States. The current Republican Party wants to scrap Social Security, Scrap Obamacare and Medicaid just to name the major things they want rid of.

They were upfront about this before the midterms.

And they still voted for this despite it affecting most of their lives for the worst.

The Tories were divided over Europe. They have been ever since the Ted Heath days.

What the Tories were guilty of is delivering the Brexit Vote which was on their manifesto and not defending the Remain vote. Which is why Cameron resigned.

Plenty of information was available, too many favoured winning the argument by shouting "Project fear", etc. rather than understanding, or really getting involved in, the the argument. There was pages of it on the political thread on this site.

Funnily enough a direct comparison between Trump's campaign and the Leave campaign was often made back in 2016, only to be laughed off.

We really can't let people forget that outright lies won both elections if we're to avoid it in the future, and saying the information wasn't available to the "common man" back then is simply wrong. People need to take responsibility for their wilful ignorance, or we just go 'round again.

But, I don't hold out much hope - many of the same people now firmly believe the earth is flat now. We're doomed.

Some of the online ads were amazing. From saving polar bears, to protecting feking tea

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-44966969

Cambridge Analytica was behind large parts of both VL and Trump campaigns. And in 2018 were told they were going to be investigated by the ICO. And then completely cleared out their offices in London before the ICO raided them. We'll never know who tipped them off but most believe was either Johnson or Gove.
