Reflections Pilgrims v Rams
I think we just don't have enough in the tank to see teams off. Plymouth were OK, nothing more. I think this season, although we've done far better than we ever dreamed is done. Automatics out of the question and I don't think we have enough physicality to win the rough and tumble of the playoffs. We'll see.
As Graham Richards used to say, this one is history. For me the penalty never was ... so a draw would have been a fairer result, but hey, we go again on Saturday.
For me, our problem area is midfield, it's where it all happens and we're just not strong enough there.
No more fishy puns tonight. That's it.
Cheers. Terry. UTR

Looked totally in control at half time - just cannot sustain it - no one to take ownership in the second half

Yeah decent team. Would have liked to have tested them a bit more though.

The ball was in play for no more than 60 seconds of the added five minutes

2 Jan signings changed the game for them 🤔

Plymouth looked ordinary for most of the first half but then started to play football. We seemed totally incapable of putting a foot on the ball and passing along the ground - too many hopeful, long balls easily and almost always cut out, just as at Barnsley. So frustrating as both their goals were lucky, deflection and really dubious penalty.

Midfield never really got to grips with the game and young White let us down twice, first for not getting in a tackle before P's first goal and second for sticking a leg out for the "penalty" (admittedly a feather of a touch if any.)

Our forwards hardly in it but the service was so poor.

Maybe Springett should be given a start as he looks to have some umph about him but whatever PW does we need to win at Oxford.

PW said that the ref apologised to Smith afterwards - "sorry if I got the penalty wrong". Good grief, give us a female ref!!!!!

That's fecking worse than giving it, like being shat on and then having it rubbed in.

We weren't really on it 2nd half. But were unlucky with the penalty. My mates have just seen it on Sky, neither thought it was a penalty live and are convinced it wasn't now.

Well we start again, if we put a bit of a run together like we did previously then I think we will be in the playoffs.

It’s all about positioning now who we fancy over two legs.

Are we in a position to do that, nope let’s just get there and take our chances.

We are more than capable and I’d fancy us against anyone bar the top two, hope they put it to bed soon to make it our only aim.

I thought Warne was a bit harsh with his criticism of the performance. Plymouth are better than us, more fluent and confident on the ball, good movement and they look to get it into the feet of the forwards. As has been the pattern recently we were unable to cope when they turned up the heat a bit and we got over-run.

We lack any sort of midfield presence when we get under the pump but that’s because we are lacking that sort of player. Bird isn’t the complete answer to that but we have missed him and he’s the best we’ve got as an anchor. We are two or three players short of what we need in my opinion. Maybe we can sneak up via the play-offs but it’s worrying that we can’t quieten down the game when the opposition gets its tail up.

Is Roy Keane available?

I agree that Warne was a bit harsh in saying he doesn't want to be associated with that kind of performance. Second half perhaps, but if we'd played like the first half in only a handful of games we'd be in the autos.

The first goal was an unlucky deflection in the end which might not have gone in on another day (although it SHOULD have been stopped at source by the Prof) and the pen was never a pen. Had Barks nailed his header we're going home with a different result. So fine margins again but for sure Plymouth were much better than us in the second half and might have won it some other way of course.

We're definitely seeing the frailty of the small squad exposed somewhat now though and if we're not allowed to actually buy some players in the summer then the Champ might be a stretch too far anyway.

I will avoid getting into the debate about the need for the combative, ratting midfielder that we let slip through our grasp. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We will still probably squeeze in to the play offs but but our performances against the better teams in this division don't give me any feelings of optimism.Against the top eight teams we have only won three games so far. We might be just be making up the numbers like Gary Rowett's team.
