Chelsea v Forest - Match Thread

I do get the comments on the Southampton thread around our away form and how unlikely it is to change.

My feeling is that it’s not about form anymore, it’s one off game’s similar to a cup. When a lower league team pulls a prem team with indifferent form out of the hat then they immediately smell blood! The hope is that’s the case with us at Chelsea

Chile is right that we have improved away from home but individually making mistakes have cost us. If we can scrap through the game without making silly errors or Chelsea aren’t in a mindset to capitalise like an inform Watson/Toney/Jota were then it adds to the hope we could get a positive result

A draw is very positive I win would be incredible

Yes, Bunk our away form is unlikely to change; but our away form has been better recently. Against Villa, Liverpool, and Brentford we played quite well but mistakes cost us. If we play to that level on Saturday we could get something. And I expect Leeds, Leicester and Everton to lose.

We have started to score goals as well as conceding them. Lampard is still in charge and despite beating B'muff last week are on a poor run of form.

I don't think SC will want to make too many changes but may need to find a RB, Joe would be the obvious choice. Lodi is also a slight doubt so Toffolo could come in. If fit maybe Lodi on the right and Toff on the left. Will Yates be ready for another start; or does Kouyate come in.

I was wondering if he would do similar to Liverpool away where Johnson is benched and goes with extra Midfielder

Awoniyi seems to be hitting form at the right time [given his long injury] I think we need to play on the front foot and try to score the first goal on the break.
Jono may have a role to play there in feeding crosses to the big fella.

I suppose it will depend on who is fit enough to start!

We certainly have a chance of getting a point from ‘The Bridge’, but it mainly relies on Chelsea reverting to type and not scoring, 0-0 is definitely our best hope.
We could ‘nick’ a goal, but if we do don’t do it in the first half, as on the occasions we have lead early, we’ve gone on to lose, Leeds and Brentford spring to mind.
We need to cut out the individual errors, and tighten up on ‘set’ plays, though Chelsea aren’t like Southampton and are unlikely to pump high balls into our box.
Chelsea certainly aren’t prolific, and were a bit fortunate at Muff last time out, 3-1 actually flattered them.
They have an absolute Rolls Royce of a player at the back in Tiago Silva, though not the quickest, he reads the game brilliantly, best bet, go wide and stay away from the middle, where he lurks.
I’m optimistic of a point, 3 would be amazing, and to be fair goal difference is no longer relevant, if we do go down, then let’s at least have a real go.
My predication, 1-1 as i don’t think we are capable of keeping a clean sheet.

This will be a big test of our mentality. IF and its a big IF we have learnt from Liverpool and Brentford and keep focused for 95-100 minutes then I see us coming away with something and we go into the Arsenal game with confidence (it's also possible if Arsenal lose today come to the WFCG knowing they have blown it).

At least it's back in our own hands and I just hope the players believe in themselves and play to their potential and stay 100% focused to the end.

By my calculations, next Saturday evening’s match will still mean everything for both teams no matter what happens this weekend

It’s still a good time to play Chelsea though. Learn lessons from the Liverpool and Brentford games - if we’re winning or drawing in the latter stages, DO NOT THROW IT AWAY! A draw is possible. Win and we’d be very unlucky to go down.

Steve has gone with 3 at the back so Worrall starts & Jono drops to the bench.

Not sure regarding Ryan starting behind Awoniyi alongside MGW ? or has the Beeb got this wrong?

Playing well so far. We finally have a way of playing away from home. Chelsea can’t be this bad for the whole game though.

I think we need a point at least from today with Leeds getting a point. Leeds will beat spurs at home on the last day I think. Spurs are an awful team with no fight so will just crumble I suspect.

Great first half, we need to switch on immediately, we concede so many in the opening minutes of games, particularly the second half. Still think we need another goal, but excellent so far.

73% - 27% possession, but the only stat that counts is 0-1....

Very composed first half. I counted 2 real chances on our goal which is so much better defensively that we have done most of the season. Big second half but keep the ball out of the net and we are in a fantastic position to stay up

Ah no!!

We really struggle at the key moments in games. Did well to see out first half. Needed to see out first 10-15 mins of the first half.

Different game now, can’t see us winning so need to get a point

Yeah, we concede at key moments too often. Ultimately we can’t defend really. It’s just that Chelsea happen to be awful going forward

We still have Johnson to bring on to give us more threat on the break
