We should bid for the keeper they've lined up and try to gazump that deal. They may reduce the Raya price tag then!
I’d rather go for Emi Martinez who would be a similar price imo
Watching De Gea kick is excruciating, same as that bum who was in goal for Leicester last night
On another note, I watched the Boro/Coventry game on Sunday and that lad from City, Zack Steffen is really good in that department

tbf it quite amusing watching him.... as another shot screams past him..... wait for it ... any second now .... 2 secs.
and there it is Pickford flying through the air trying to save the shot about 15 secs after the ball crossed the line and his team has kicked off again.
Yeah I think he'd be a good signing. Not sure if signing a new keeper is seen as a priority, though I definitely think it should be.

Hope so. David’s time is clearly up with the modern style of play.
Hopefully we don’t go through another post-Schmeichel nightmare over the next five years.
Could be a bit of a bidding war for Raya.
He’s been heavily linked with Chelsea and Spurs, both of which you’d think will definitely buy a keeper in the next window.
We’ve been heavily linked as well. Didn’t realise you lot were in for a keeper this summer? We’re bound to both be linked to the same keepers all summer then - no doubt some journo will Tie Kane into the story somehow (he did play in goal for us once and scored a hat trick in the same game)

I think it has to be at least 3rd biggest priority. We’d surely be able to get Raya for less than the 40 mill if the player pushes for the move.
I don’t think we’ll get anything like 40 mill for Henderson but it would be great if we could sell him and bring in Raya for a small loss.
Raya has interestingly spent his entire career in England so surely counts as homegrown.

City wouldn't buy a keeper who isn't good in that department. Same with Liverpool and Kelleher. We need to start doing the same ASAP.
It's why I say I don't think it would cost much to upgrade on De Gea this summer, even if the position isn't a priority and it's a stop gap. A keeper who is comfortable with his feet would add so much to this team even if they are average at pretty much everything else, and there is no shortage of these guys.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe so. Better with the ball at his feet and better statistically.
Raya would be a massive upgrade on DDG.
I hesitate to say who I think we should bring in, because I don't know enough about GKs. What I would say is (unless we're anticipating having no budgetary constraints in the near future) we should think carefully about quality and cost. I've seen it suggested that Raya is a very good (but not elite) keeper who ticks all the boxes. If this is a fair assessment, my question is whether we want to spend a considerable sum (which limits our spending power on other positions) and commit considerable future salary expenditure on a player who will definitely improve us in the short term but doesn't offer a competitive edge against the elite teams we want to compete against soon. Unless a unicorn comes along and offers us a generational keeper available on a free, then our options would seem to be:
- Cheap (less than £20m) keeper who has the right attributes which offer a significant upgrade on DDG, while leaving scope to further upgrade in a year or two when we're completing the Death Star.
- Mid-market option like Raya who is better or less of a risk than the cheap (maybe young) keeper, but commits more club resources.
- Elite keeper (Costa?) who represents better potential and long term value but puts a huge dent in the transfer kitty.
I struggle to see the third option as viable this summer, so we're probably in a position of thinking about that balance of how much we want to invest, and whether we want a long-term or a stop-gap keeper. In my view, as long as the keeper is well profiled, even an average ability GK gives us a lot of potential improvement.
