Well without a radical rethink of the business model of the premier league this scenario is inevitable maybe they should all clear out to the European super league .
For the predictability of the champions league of late has to be losing appeal to a lot of fans
Same teams in last 16 ,same draws year on year.

The reality is nobody will take City’s potential treble seriously. Financial doping and a lack of quality in UCL.

But uniturds squad cost more than City’s and that doesn’t include the crazy amounts they threw away on the likes of Lukaku and Sanches et al

2nd to 5th place finishers in each domestic league play off to determine who goes into the UCL with the league champions. Then it's a straight knockout.
As it is now the group stages are boring as eff.

Yeah there’s a lot to be said for that approach, the old European cup is much derided as it was run along those lines but as I remember it ,it threw up as many memorable ties.

In essence todays champions league is not much different cos the business end starts at the knockout stages…….so it’s the same teams dining at the table splitting all the revenue year after year with no appetite for change
Tv revenue is based on progression so meaningless group stage fixtures are only bolstering revenues for top clubs …..who then can buy best players so it in effect creates a closed shop
Yada yada.

The primary aim of the CL format is to guarantee the big clubs the highest number of games possible. UEFA aren't going to make any changes that reduce that number, because they don't call the shots and haven't done for years.

UEFA knows full well what will happen if they don't do the bidding of the elite, and the suits in charge would rather continue to pocket whatever cash falls their way than have a breakaway league.

FIFA trying to expand the Club World Cup is a sure sign that they know UEFA's lost the battle in Europe.
