What now?

From what I’ve read Benfica would like to keep Guedes but they’re not a club that pays big money for signings. I suspect they will try to get another season long loan. I guess Wolves would prefer to sell him but it depends what kind of offers come in

Coady did well on Sunday but I doubt if he’ll be someone Dyche would want to keep. Everton played 5 at the back in that game but it’s not their usual approach

After getting little game time with Wolves in recent months, Ait Nouri has been left out of the Algerian squad for their upcoming internationals

Guedes played 12 games in the league over half a season. He hasn't played more for Benfica because he had a knee injury, not because he wasn't being picked. He had surgery on his knee which kept him out for over a month and just had another surgery on it recently.

Might make it difficult to sell him if Benfica don't want to keep him if he is going to be injured for the entire summer. Hopefully they will want him to stay though.

I am fully aware that Guedes had a meniscal injury and was out for 5 games. All I stated was.."he's not played much for Benfica". I didn't say it was because he wasn't picked. Having said that, he has only started 4 games in his 12 appearances, both before and after his injury.

He wasn't in the squad for the last game and if it was because he's had a reoccurrence of his injury, I hardly doubt Benfica will want him.

I didn't say you said anything. Just provided context to the statement that he hasn't played much.

He was only picked 4 times to start in his 12 appearances. Says something.

Just providing context to your statement.

Yeah, he started 4 of 6 games prior to his injury. Then has only come on as a sub since. Not overly surprising given he isn't fully fit and required a second surgery.

Sounds like Benfica want him next season. Likely to be another loan if he goes there though, due to the injuries. Its unlikely Guedes will be here next season regardless, given he forced the move in January due to not settling in the UK.

I've been in Valencia a few times this year through work. Not surprising he struggled swapping there with Wolverhampton. Quite the culture shock.

I'm thinking of visiting Valencia Tam. Is it worth the trip? How does it compare to Madrid or Barca?

Also, I notice that now a certain poster is out of Intensive Care the arguments start again? Funny that.

I've not been to Barcelona or Madrid to be honest, so can't compare.

Valencia was nice. The whole city had a nice feel to it. Its got a big beach too. When I was there in March in was 22°C. I went for a walk on the day I arrived in shorts and t-shirt and all the locals were wearing coats. Gives an idea on how different the climate is.

Everton have decided to not take up the option to buy Coady and he is now back at Wolves. Rumours persist that he is wanted by Sheffield United.

Everton have also released Rúben Vinagre who they took on loan from Sporting Lisbon but who ended the season on the injured list

Will having Coady back "be like a new signing"?

No, but it will be fun reading a few on molmix trying to justify him being in the team next season.

posted on 1/6/23

There is a tweet posted on MolMix linking us with James Ward-Prowse for £40 million. Not sure I'd want him, particularly for that price. Think he is a bit overrated due to his set pieces, which are obviously very good but I don't think he'd be considered without them.

We'd end up signing him and have him taking short corners every week.

Most clubs outside the top six have mentioned Viktor Gyokeres as a player they'd like to sign this summer in the fan review on the BBC.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65710078

We don't tend to do too well in competition like that for a player if all those clubs become interested.

Another forward from the Championship that might be worth looking at is Joel Piroe from Swansea. Scored around 20 goals two seasons in a row there and could be cheaper that Gyokeres.

posted on 1/6/23

Yeah JWP for 40 million is ridiculous. He might go for like 20 maybe but it would still be a no from me.

posted on 1/6/23

What has concerned me more than most, is the fact that the club are fully aware of our goal scoring problems over the last two seasons, yet all we seem to be doing is getting midfield players. What we need is a couple of good strikers for gawd sake. Don't need the likes of Ward-Prowse.

posted on 1/6/23

Do like Gyokeres and seems a good all round centre forward as well as a scorer. Haven’t seen us linked with Piroe but there has been mentions of Chuba Akpom from Boro

posted on 1/6/23

They sound like good options, although I'd still like to add Fabio, at least until the January window and see if he can make any sort of impact.

posted on 1/6/23

I haven't really seen anyone linked with Piroe, which seems weird given he is a 20 goal striker in the Championship.

posted on 2/6/23

Piroe has scored 43 in two seasons for Swansea after they signed him from PSV for just £1m. Looks like he will be sold this summer as his contract runs out in 12 months

Well worth a visit Valencia, only had a day trip there once about ten years ago but is on the list for a weekend break. More compact than Madrid and Barca, and probably more retained history but very modern too. Like many mediterranean cities, has lots of different architectural influences.

posted on 2/6/23

Had city trips to Barcelona and Seville in Spain but not Madrid or Valencia. Madrid is one I want to do this year or next and ideally get to see a Real Madrid home game while I’m there

During the pandemic the Fosun group of companies ran into financial difficulties and their credit rating went down considerably. That situation has improved significantly over the last 18 months and their ratings have improved accordingly
