That is poor planning having to wait for the period to be over when it is your wedding week. Could he not have predicted that and chosen a week earlier? What a bloody mess

Looks to me like the club are slowing things down in an attempt to get a replacement lined up. Maybe trying to move a few players on before deciding on whether to keep De Gea or spend the extra cash on a keeper. One thing seems clear; ETH is not at all convinced by De Gea.

Anything could happen over this period. He will be around family and discussing his future. Might decide its time to head back to Spain?

We’ve handled this so badly. We should have just told him he won’t be renewed and let him have a send off. He may no longer be at the level required, but the man has done wonders for this club over the years and should be treat with some respect by the people running it.

Yeh I agree. Feel bad for him really, but hopefully he does move on and we get Onana or someone else suitable.

Lol no. His family will always come first. Not his fault the club has treated him disgracefully

Yeah and his new wife could be irrational during this period and demand that he moves back to Spain. That's just another reason why organising the wedding during this period is ridiculous. There are three other weeks in the month to choose from where things wouldn't be so messy and he would certainly enjoy his wedding day more. If it was her that organised the wedding for this period and it leads to the death of De Gea's United career then she will certainly have blood on her hands on her wedding day.

I'm all for making sure family come first but not on my wedding day. You should be fully focused on your wife and making sure she comes first, then if necessary focus the rest of the family, kids in laws etc. Making sure they come next. BUT poor planning means that she's very unlikely to come first on her own wedding day, because of this period he needs to wait for ending. The pain it must be causing her as well. Sad situation

Can’t remember who it was, but I heard someone say that the contract may have been offered six months ago, DDG stalled on signing it, now he’s decided he wants to stay, but the landscape may have changed in those six months.

Maybe the club aren’t completely to blame here, maybe?

It reflects a lack of decisiveness, which suggests to me that people behind the scenes have been divided as to what to do, which in turn makes me wonder whether non-football people still wield too much power over sporting decisions.

How long does he get to decide on a accepting new contract extension ?

I don’t think it takes much wondering.

That’s the worry, irrelevant of money you’d have thought EtH would have worked out pretty quickly that de Gea needs replacing. I did read that when we offered him the first contract he didn’t respond for a long time and most likely in that time his form dropped considerably which resulted in the club changing plans, but still it’s all been very unprofessional.

I’ve just never got the reason to keep him on as an understudy and still on high wages? He’s never struck me as much of a leader or someone that others are going to gain much from and he isn’t that big a star that he draws in fans/money.

Will be interesting to see where he goes, no one in the PL needs him and no one in Spain can afford him. His only choice might be the Middle East.

Get rid. Build a new spine. Exorcise the past. The only way.

Mahrez possibly off to Saudi Arabia, guess he’s won it all in Europe.

He will probably be on honeymoon for the next couple of weeks with the 1st pre season game scheduled for the 12th july. Will both parties wait till then to resume talks

You would think De gea needs to get his future sorted as much as the club does

Will be interesting to see what City do in the transfer market for the wide areas. If Mahrez and Bernardo leave that’s two players that have been important on the right for them.

For me it looks as though ETH believes that a CF is the priority, but really wants a new GK as well. So we are stalling negotiations with De Gea in an attempt to raise some money from sales so that we can afford both. It doesn't look great, but we will all be happy come the end of the window if we have a new CF and GK.

My knowledge of FFP (or whatever it’s called now) is terrible. What happens if we broke the rules, do we get a fine or some kind of suspension or points deduction?

You have to wonder sometimes if it would be worth the transfer ban.
