Rob getting desperate.

I’m absolutely fine. Just trying to point out that it’s not uniquely an Australian thing to game the system as the English (ans every other nation) are just as bad.

If it helps you sleep at night.

You should know the bet welchers character by now.

You won't get 5-0.

There's no way rain isn't going to fack you over at some point

Fine, I’ll take 4-0. We’ve never gone to England and come away without a loss as far as I remember.

Actually 1989 was 4 wins and 2 draws

And I’m not even gonna lie, I hope we mankad Stokes at Headingley just for the narrative and the look on Darren’s face 😅😅😅

The Phrase "it's just not cricket" comes from the fact that the game prides itself on upholding the highest levels of sportsmanship and fairness.

That was poor sportsmanship from the Aussies. Total opportunism that undermines a very well established consensus.

Bairstow was not seeking advantage, not batting out of his crease, or trying to run. He very deliberately grouned his foot before strolling off to 'garden'.

Fair enough Carey's action may have been instinctive, but to then not withdraw the appeal is bang out of order from the Aussies, that truly is out side the spirit of the game.

I've no axe to grind against Australia, I have family over there, visited many times and love the place especially Sydney. I enjoy the banter and always thought cricket was the last bastion of decency and fair play in sport but what happened at Lords yesterday has well and truly smashed that illusion.

The fact Bairstow made a clear grounding movement with his foot inside his crease shortly after hearing the ball smack into Carey's gloves then walked off towards the other end presumably to chat to Stokes should have been enough to not enforce the dismissal.

However I think Cummings was caught up in the pressure and emotion as were his team mates and in hindsight he should have warned Bairstow and let him carry on with his innings.... that's what I would have done and the majority of England fans too and what Stokes said he would have done if put in the same position had Bairstow succeeded in his attempt to get an Aussie batsman out straying out of his crease.

Aussie fans think what happened is within the laws so it's okay but to me it was sneaky, desperate and unsporting and in answer to the question, Yes there is a right way to win and yesterday in my opinion fell well short of that unwritten honourable rule in sport which like modern society today sadly seems to have lost sight of it's moral compass in so many other aspects of life.

If winning at all cost means damaging your reputation as a decent honourable human being I'll do without winning like that thank you very much... It takes a lifetime to build a reputation and seconds to destroy it.

Don’t get what all the complaints are about Bairstow getting out!

He’s been playing the game long enough to know the rules and if he’s not grounded his bat behind his crease and got caught by the keeper then it’s his own bloody fault!

Australia are going to get one hell of a ‘welcome’ at Headingley, that’s for sure.

Their fans will always be welcome. But I think the days of the team drinking in the Oak after the match will at least be on hold this season.

Carroll's over the goal line scoop was pure cheating, something that United did a lot of.

You clearly don't play cricket.

Throwing the ball back to the opposition if they put it out for an injury is not in the rules, but if a team ignored that and scored vs LFC, would you be saying "it's fine, what's all the fuss about? our players have played long enough to know what the rules are". I doubt it somehow!

No logical reason you should be allowed a 2-yard head-start to score a run.

Mankading is an absolute dik-move imo. And pretty much every cricket fan I know.

I thought they'd changed the law now so that if a bowler is into their bowling action, the non-striker can't be run out. I guess there's ambiguity of when that action starts.

And when exactly did you stop watching football? Teams have leaving it up to the ref to stop the game in those situations for literally years.

My only addition to this conversation is I went to school with Bairstow, he was the year above me and he was one of the most arrogant people I've ever met once he turned pro. Always hearing bad stories about him from friends, so for me, he probably deserved a humbling.

His sister was also my first kiss to haha

Really want England to do it in the next match just to create a case study on fan behaviour and perception.

I am sure the conclusion will be the same as all of the rest of the studies though, that generally, your opinion on an incident depends upon which team you support.

It is all very interesting to observe though.

I thought it was the other way round, that they'd removed that restriction. If I'm wrong, the the rules say not out. Either way, it'll be straightforward enough for everyone to be able to understand and adhere to.

As others have argued, Bairstow's was different in that he wasn't actually trying to get ahead to score a run, but the level of spirit-bending is no worse than throwing all standard bowling etiquette out the window, which by all accounts is what England the day before.

Indeed. Bowling bouncers at an injured Lyon is pretty out of order.
