You do realise that you have just used the words "the press" and "educated" in the same sentence. I think they are just taking guesses.

You usually know the legitimacy of a rumour when every media outlet start jumping on it. Such as the Mount transfer.

There are ones where there is a clear dialogue, like Onana, as the Inter chairman has mentioned the deal (iirc). Similar with Bayern and Kane, as we know am earlier bid was placed.

Ones like Caicedo seem more speculative

Not necessarily. How often have we been told we are i for Batistuta, Garay, Sneijder, Ozil, Rabiot.

Caicedo no bids but interest.

Brighton have set a high price and we will see by the end of the window who gets most desperate.

I agree there is more to support some than others, but are these snippets exaggerated by the media?

He has mentioned there is interest there(united towards Onnan) , but no bid. We probably register an interest in dozens of players each season.

Did Bayern bid for Kane? Bayern denied having recieved a bid, and the 2nd supposed bid was said to be imminent, yet nothing since.

The press need to get paid so they generate stories. People click on these stories, they show this traffic to their sponsors, they get paid.

There's not that many journos around with genuine sources at clubs. I'd say each PL club usually has about 2-3 they trust to leak information out at the right time.

I ignore all the rags, the Twitter aggregators etc - all just guesswork

You forget the agents, the main source of all the gossip.

Most of the rumors come from the the agents.

I do think there is something in some of the stories, but the majority are pure BS, hence why I'm pessimistic when we are linked, unless there is some supporting evidence.

I think Arsenal will get Rice as nobody else seems to be willing to meet West Hams terms, but the Onnana to United / Kane to Bayern stories seem a little speculative

I think the Onana one is solid, could see a bid drop this week

Why have the rags started this trend of clickbait headlines like

“Former United star didn’t eat butter for ten years”
“Ex-Liverpool player unrecognizable today”

Etc

Are they that desperate for clicks now they have to play mystery games?

Deals take a lot longer to go through these days. Far more variables and factors to them as well as there being a hell of a lot more money involved.

It's July 4th. The window closes end of August.

Both were release clauses weren't the?. Absolutely no negotiation required if so.

Yes, but clubs fknt just get 1 June and decide ' right. Who we going for?'

Clubs have targets well in advance, and by June should have an idea if the player is available, and the parent clubs valuation of that player.

Say they want £80m, and we don't want to pay more than £60m. Should it really take that long to negotiate, say £60 - 65m + optimistic add ons?

By RDD’s logic the Mount deal could still all be speculation.
