I was told I had ADHD in school, thought nothing of it and carried on with life, it only really affects me when going through tasks or learning things that don't interest me. People just assumed I was naughty, which part of me always felt was the truth of it.

I can actually focus well on things that intrigue me, I feel it's helped me in my career and life in general as I could never be that person who sits in a job or with people that bore me. I'm the least organised person you'll ever meet though, and probably a little apathetic toward people.

I've always been very active which helps. If I'm unable to do some form of physical activity I drive myself mad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Driving yourself mad sounds like quite a physical activity. So hopefully that solves it.

My son has just finished year 6 and is off to secondary school in Sept. There were two autistic kids in his year group (one male, one fenale).

The lad unfortunately was kicked out and put in a special school in year 5 as has meltdowns were becoming a danger to teachers and other pupils but the girl has exceeded all expectations and is going to the same secondary as my son and her friendship group.

All cases are different and because it wasn't known about until recently I'm sure loads of adults who had rotten childhoods are now realising there was alot more to it than them just being a poor student.

Can I ask what the signs were?

No worries if you would rather not share.

Sometimes I feel I show signs of mild autism. Not enough that it massively affects my life but just small. I will get checked at some point.

Sorry I forgot the worse thing!

She cannot really cope when things go wrong. She catastrophises then and it's like her brain is going at 100mph trying to link up all the bad things that have happened in her life. All logic goes out of the window for a while.

That sounds more like Bi Polar.

VC - To be honest I thought that as well after reading up about her symptoms but, then again, that's Googling it and that's not the best thing to do at times. You'd think you have all sorts wrong with you!

Dwight - not that I know of. If she does I at least hope she's monetised it!

The other symptoms you listed are not Bi Polar but the one you listed is the worst certainly is. My daughter is Bi Polar and that was one of her symptoms.

That may be discussed with her next week. I thought it was Bipolar to be honest and, just a quick read now suggests that it can go with Autism. Hope your daughter is managing it fine.

She was misdiagnosed from about five years old until she was twelve. Once they got to the right diagnosis she has been fine so long as she takes her medication. She can still get the symptoms but can now manage them.

She takes Lithium. If I put an electric pos and negative cable on her feet I could probably power the house.

Ah that's bad about the diagnosis but good you've eventually managed to get it managed.

It's awful seeing people you love not being able to cope with some things.

She's lucky she has you Diafol. You are bright and caring, so you will cope. I think after while it will seem natural, not coping. Then you are both winners.

Cheers MU52. In many ways nothing changes as all this is really is confirmation of what we probably already suspected.

If I can lean on the experience of others just to make her life 1% better even then I will though.

I'd strongly recommend anyone who suspects their kids might be on the spectrum to have them seen as early as possible.

My nephew most definitely is, but due to his parents' denial never got checked as a kid and has consequently struggled massively in adult life.

His own kid showed signs of clear and rather severe autism as a very small boy. Thankfully though, one of my sisters was adamant that he should get seen. He started to receive specialist attention from around 4 or 5. He's 12 now and has made impressive progress. Having seen the progress made his dad has finally decided to get his own case seen to as well.

Good advice.

Don't know how it is in other parts of the country but you're waiting quite a while here for assessment. If at all possible going private isn't a bad option.

Glad for her she has someone so understanding there for her. I can’t really advise on any practical steps, but there’s plenty of literature out there, and if you do know anyone working in the medical profession they may be able to advise on any support for her, yourself and your family.

Yeah, I'll be looking at the literature for sure. With more purpose now as before I was going on my own amateur diagnosis! There' something proper to work with now!

Daughter was diagnosed with autism while in primary school.
Your behavioral description is spot on.
In addition, they sometimes can get distracted by noises that seems oblivious to most.
They are also very good in math and sciences.
The council where I live regularly organise events for parents with children diagnosed with autism. Once you understand their pattern of behavior and how their brains work, it becomes really easy and normal.

Yeah I suspect a bit of clarification on it will help. My understanding is that’s there’s a lot of support around it’s just knowing where to find it.

Perhaps online forums dedicated to it are fairly common? Might be worth looking into, even if it’s just for sharing experiences that may help somewhat.

It's not a mental illness that can be treated as such.
Rather, the diagnosis helps understand their world view.
Well, this is just my opinion.

Just another person to be diagnosed with Autism since the covid vaccine came about. Did you know that there have been hundreds of thousands of people around the world that have been diagnosed with Autism since 2020, when the vaccine came about? This just provides further evidence.
