I think we should leave Israel well alone and stay out of it.

posted on 13/10/23

Have they done this before for other countries after acts of terrorism?

Jewish Brits? Why would Jewish Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish care about what the English FA do?

I would have thought this obvious. Because they are Jewish AND British?

I don’t think anyone expects the FA to solve the issues. Just to acknowledge the horrific loss of life to terrorism..

Ah yes they did after people were murdered in a nightclub in Paris.

Strange that they won't do the same now, I wonder why?

but jewish....

Tell you what mate - why don't you ask Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish Jews whether they care that the FA is refusing to do something that they have done before. Then ask them why and you'll have your answer.

Such a truly bizarre question to ask. Even more bizarre than this was the first thing you decided to write as a post.

I have a mate who is Scottish and Jewish. He said he didn’t care. Hence why I posted when I saw the article.

Interesting trick using the word “refusing” as opposed to “choosing”. We see your framing Satters.

If you want to know why I was in touch with him, we don’t chat often (marriage, kids, life has meant we’ve drifted apart) but I was checking in to see how he was getting on and we got into joking about how daft some of the reporting on a hugely complex situation is👍

I’m totally with the FA on this

I agree with it. They need to scale back this constant demand to use sport - particularly football - as a platform for political or societal comment. Do it for one and you have to do it for all or face criticism or scrutiny, and who decides whose cause is worthier.

There are other places for this kind of things.

Refusing or choosing - doesn't matter. They've chosen to be inconsistent.

Ah you've spoken to one Jewish Scot. I've explained why I suspect that non-english Jews would care what the FA does (not in general but wrt to lights for the terrorism).

Maybe, but is this the time to decide they won’t do it any longer? I don’t think so.

Would we really be saying don’t do it if it was France, the US or Sweden who had suffered such an attack?

They’ve chosen to not respond to a complex situation. The context in which things happen is important, the English FA are respecting that. You may disagree with it, but while you might read it as inconsistent, others could credibly read it as consistent with other conflicts in that part of the world.

I suspect for many many Scottish Jews, the showiness (or lack thereof) of support for a country they don’t live in, and many haven’t visited nor have any intention of visiting, by an FA that for obvious reasons they don’t support, is irrelavent.

Comparing the context of a terrorist attack on Sweden with the political situation and context of Israel and Palestine; apples and bowling balls.

Minute silence for the victims of the terrorist attack - absolutely.
Showing support for a particular “side” in what is a hugely complex situation - no thank you.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews also criticised the FA statement – pointing out that it made “no mention of the mass terrorist murders of hundreds of innocent Israelis last Saturday”.
