£75m for VVD was a bargain.
We’re not title challengers, it’s City and then a long way back from that Liverpool and then ourselves and Arsenal are early season pace setters - like Arsenal were last year.
The results really landed for us this weekend though - we are now 9 points clear of 6th placed Newcastle with a quarter of the season gone and 5th place likely being a CL spot, that’s the real prize this year.
Newcastle vs Arsenal next week - I fancy a draw in that one, if we can turn Chelsea over then we go 11 points clear of the Geordies. Hilariously we would also be 17 points clear of Chelsea.
If we’re top after United away in January then we’re in a title race, but that’s 10 games from now, so a lot can happen.
One game a week is absolutely making Spurs title challengers.
Is there a better goalie than Vicario?
Are there a better CB partnership than Romero and Micky Van?
Is their a better midfield than Bentancur, Sarr, Bissouma and Maddison?
Are there that many better strikers than Son up top?
These are the criteria you have to look at when assessing title challengers. Forget about the fact Spurs have not won the title for 60 years. Completely irrelevant to season 2023/24.
Spurs are 100 per cent in a title challenge.

The first 11 is gold Sandy, bar Richarlison who was much improved against Palace but still meh.
The issue will be injuries and suspensions. Lose a CB and it’s Dire, no Udogie and it’s Davies, No Son and we’re probably shifting Richy to the central role, no Maddison and and it’s Lo Celso or Kulu in a central role.
We are hugely dependant upon keeping players fit, more so than Pool or City - both just need Haaland and Salah for most games, we would struggle big time without Micky, Romero, Son and Maddison

Ask yourself this, Sandy is there a better club at handling the title run than Spurs? Yes, 2 clubs.
I will be happy with top 4 or even top 3, in the light of some results going for us. Anything else is a bonus.
I see us very much like Arsenal of last season. First X1 is exceptional. Only really Richarlison who's a real weak link (and hopefully Johnson now takes his place).
However, like Arsenal when Rob Holding came in for Saliba we're an injury away from a huge downgrade in a lot of positions.
The real excitement is we have a core of real quality, mainly young players and a manager who plays the right way. I don't expect any trophies but it's going to be a lot of fun.

Exactly, despite our start to the season, City are only 2 points off of us and Liverpool 3.
Our next 6 is a tough run also Chelsea (H) Wolves (A) Villa (H) City (A) West Ham (H) Newcastle (H) - I would bite your hand off for 4 wins from that lot. The first 3 won’t have Euro distractions either, the Villa game being after the international break, and so they will be as prepared for us as we are for them.

That’s the thing, we’re at a start of a journey and we have some exceptional talent - I mean Udogie I think will be regarded as one of the top 2 left backs in the league by seasons end. Maddison is the midfielder the club needed since Eriksen left, Romero and Micky are the new Toby and Jan, Porro has completely turned it around, Vicario is sensational, Biss has the ability to be the best in the league, Bentancur will be back soon, Sarr is a monster. Son is better than most in a central striking position.
It’s just the wide forward roles that need a bit more - Kulu and Richy look toothless at times and Johnson and Solomon are settling in. Gil just won’t make it here - we should move him out asap.
Would love to see us drop £150m-£200m on Palace in Jan and buy Guehi, Olise and Eze - we would be set, incredible cover and pushing for first team footy.
Title challenger is ridiculous, dont have the squad depth of city and others, just sit back and enjoy the ride

Chelsea are home to Blackburn on Weds in the lc.
I would expect them to go strong in that as they have no Europe and are in the bottom half of the Prem. Plus they desperately need a home win, so once again we have a clear week and our opponents don't.
Can't wait.
Need to see how Spurs handle their next 6/7 games.
You've had a fairly tame set of fixtures up until now, not a dig as it's not your fault, but your next few games are fairly tough on paper.
Get a decent points total from those and the belief will be there in the squad that you can actually challenge.

Not your fault but this tame fixture stuff is nonsense. We’ve played Pool, Arsenal and United, we beat Fulham at home - Arsenal drew, we beat a Palace side that United lost to. We got a point at Brentford, Chelsea just lost at home to them.
What makes it nonsense though is compare who we have played to City and Arsenal. Arsenal have played all of United, Spurs and City at home and only Chelsea away from the top sides. City have played Newcastle, Arsenal and now United - but the rest have been fodder and they still lost at Wolves. Our start has been no easier than those 2. It has though been easier than Liverpool and Villas starts - both of whom have done really well also.
It's not really nonsense when you've played 6 of the bottom 8 so far, including the bottom 4.
You've done the thing you needed to do and actually won those games which helps build vital momentum, but the next few games will give us a better picture of where you're at.

All the other teams are in the same boat. Lose their best players, and they will struggle. No coincidence City lost De Bruyne and Rodri and lost two Prem games.

Well considering that at the start of the season, after 10 games most of our supporters expected Spurs to be a dozen or more points behind City and Liverpool, then it is nothing short of astonishing, that they are two points in front of them.
Spurs may or may not win the title, but they most definitely are in a title race, if both Arsenal and Liverpool are.
And what is exactly tough about playing four home games to Chelsea, West Ham, Villa and Newcastle? Spurs should be winning all four of those. Comfortably beat Chelsea and West Ham at home last season with a worse team. And Newcastle are not that good on the road this season. And have Villa actually come up against a top four side yet this season?
Wolves away could be the toughest game of all. City to me is 50/50. Spurs seem to have their number.

Yes most of us know we’re in a CL spot race and now have a great chance. That’s it, because at some point City will win 13/14 games in the bounce and no one can live with that

Oh, and is there a better left back than Udogie?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The first 11 is gold Sandy, bar Richarlison who was much improved against Palace but still meh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All the other teams are in the same boat. Lose their best players, and they will struggle. No coincidence City lost De Bruyne and Rodri and lost two Prem games.
It always amuses me when supporters say that. Like Spurs are the only team that would struggle without their best players.
