3-0 loss might get lucky and nick a goal but it should be one of Newcastle’s easiest home games of the season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mmm, I think I might ignore your comments Urma. Easier than Burnley Luton, Bournemouth , West Ham etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Newcastle won't get an easier game this season than they did against us last weekend and they themselves weren't great lol.

I think avoid the shocking individual errors that beset us against them and I think you will nick a point at least.

His all round performance was better than anything Rashford has put in for a long time.

….

And that is the only time this season he has put in a half decent performance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t totally agree but nevertheless it’s still one decent performance more than Rashford.
---------------------------------------------------------------------I

I don’t care whether you agree or not. It is true. And I bet Rashford has more goals and assists than Antony.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re better than this.

They had 4 keepers in the match day squad in Paris midweek

-----------

Hard to feel sorry for them when we can't even get one into our starting XI.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He's better on the ball than half of our outfield players though. Maybe he's the answer in CM. πŸ˜‚

"Rashford is going to start anyway so this is all pointless. Whether he deserves to or not is definitely not clear."

********************************************

Six months of pure dogsheite and its not clear? Now he needs Shaw to become a 300k a week player?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And Antony has 1 PL goal in 12 months and barely an assists. Hope that helps the not clear point for you. πŸ˜‚

You have to go down a few levels when dealing with people who like Antony despite any actual evidence that he is any good.

I gave him the benefit of doubt as last year was his first season but he has actually been worse this season.

He is never going to be a top player with his limited ability until he learns to use his right foot.

posted on 1/12/23

I hope Antony proves me wrong but I still think Wednesday night was the exception rather than the norm. Hope I'm wrong and he becomes a top player.

Like VC says though.......with no right foot he's just too predictable and he's not good enough with his strong foot for that not to be a huge issue in his game like it is for other footed players through the years.

Whoever we play there though will have weaknesses. We just aren't blessed with loads of talent despite spending enough money to have a truly world class squad over the last 6 years.

I still can’t believe we blew our budget on Mount and Onana, when will ever spend our money wisely am giving Hojlund the benefit of doubt and not even going there with Antony

This is it though.......we are trying to do a huge rebuild and we already have warning signs that the rebuild needs a rebuild. πŸ˜‚

If you constantly waste tens of millions on average / wrong profile players then you will never get anywhere.

Casemiro was a desperate signing. Huge outlay for a player past his best and will soon need replacing.

Onana so far has been very poor.

Antony has been very poor.

Mount very poor.

Hojlund looks a talent but is incredibly raw and £64m + 8 for a player of his standing was incredibly optimistic.

This is why I have started to really question the manager. His judgement on players we need just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

How can we know for sure? We never will.

Antony and Onana surely were though given he's managed them before.

As for Casemiro, Mount and Hojlund.....who knows. Maybe some of those deals were partly club choices too but with agreement from the manager.

For £400m spent I expected more successes than we have seen though that's for sure.

Not many of our signings in the last ten years have worked out either. So I’m reluctant to constantly point to the manager when things go awry.

We need a DoF to get some consistency in recruitment.

The problem isn't ETH's choices. It's the way we have gone about our business with late dilly-dallying with primary targets, late deals, and poor negotiation. We've overspent at least 40% on most of our signings, which if done correctly, would have allowed us to budget for the gaps we still have. Also, we've had to deal with major unexpected right-offs in the Greenwood and Sancho situations.

Good points, and I agree

ETH has until the end of the season for me to prove or disprove his ability as a coach, I don’t think he has the man management skills for top Premier League players which will be his downfall , at the same time I have no idea where we could go next and who can get more out of this overpriced badly bough squad.

Tomorrow could be a good time to pack the midfield and have Bruno just behind a front two. Amrabat and Mainoo in DM and McT just ahead. He'll be handy for his height at set pieces. I'd also bring Varane back in for Lindelof.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So a 42112 formation? Might just work.

We need to drop onana but this game may not be that opportunity.

I think that's a fair standpoint to take. I suppose the only question with some of our "top" players is whether they even have the mentality of top players, regardless of manager. The number of collapses we've seen over a period of years now is beyond concerning

posted on 2/12/23

Our record against the tops sides away isn’t helped by the fact we are so wasteful in front of goal. Even in the CL we wasted absolute sitters home and away against Galatasaray and away to Bayern and away to Copenhagen which has meant now we are favourites for 4th. We missed like 10 absolute sitters in those games which is now the difference between challenging Bayern for top spot and missing out of europe completely.
