Football's 10x bigger than rugby. Most people don't even care about the Rugby World Cup.

If you remember back to the football WC , England were panned, and Rooney in particular because of very poor performances and Rooney's slating of the fans...

Problem is most union players are stuck up pompous idiots. Union itself is a giant version of bulldog charge. I.wouldn't mind if 70% of the game didn't involve kicking the ball put of play.

only a very smal perecentage of people will have any sort of interest in any rugby game

in scotland they don't even bother reporting on rugby at all in newspapers and there is very rarely anything on the television with anything to d with rugby

i couldn't name one scotland rugby player from now or the past because no newspaper,Radio show would have anything to do with rugby

unfair to compare a sport like football with rugby

Most rugby supporters come from towns with little football support. Obvious exception is Leeds.

But wigan still remains a rugby town so take their semi final with st helens. 2 rugby towns.
Same with warrington when they played Leeds.

In union most of the teams come from the home counties where football is almost none existent.

The difference is England rugby team wasn't expected to do well this world cup. Most people with knowledge knew that New Zealand were going to walk it, although the first half against Argentina this morning wasn't exactly mind blowing, even if NZ did walk the second half.
For some reason the football team is ALWAYS expected to do well, even when we do shocking in the qualifiers.

Your talking about an England Rugby team who have done a hell of a lot better in major tournaments over the last few years.

How does the England football team compare? Yes the Rugby team ended a poor tournament with a poor game against France, but they have won in the past and will likely win plenty more trophies before England Football wins one.
If England stop performing well over a long period of time then the media will pounce, but for now there is no reason.

I think that by the time it got to the sitting on the floor stage in rows banging trays on their heads and drinking each others vomit in pint glasses, the Rugby Union boys had forgotten all about the result.
