Apparently Dawson, Lemina and Cunha were all ill last night.

I honestly don't think the four or five is the problem. We concede just as lousy goals with a five on a regular basis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only time we've conceded more than 2 this season with a 5 was the Fulham game think when VAR took it away from us. We don't look great either way but we have more cover obviously in a 5 and defensively a better shape.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think we still concede the first and third goals today with 5 at the back. The first goal came from a counter from a corner when had sent people forward. The third goal came from us giving it away and one pass put them in a race with Dawson.

The second one was similar, but you could argue Toti may have been narrower to get pressure on.

All of the goals weren't really anything to do with the formation though. They were just us giving the ball away and being slow in transition when West Ham broke. It was really poor from the players today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good points but in recent games our deepest defender when we've had corners or set pieces has been a wing back not a centre back, usually Ait-Nouri. That may have been opposition specific but its been more than one game.

Just noticed it was Semedo the deepest at the corner we conceded from so no change there.

If the opposition put all 11 players in their own area for a corner we do usually leave one or two of the wing backs as our deepest/only defenders on the halfway line. Usually it’s been Semedo or Ait Nouri. Guess that’s based on it needing to be someone with pace in the event of a breakaway. Didn’t work well today though

Ait Nouri did a great piece of tracking down later in todays game as well. No doubt for me we are better when he is playing these days.

All in all though we just looked flat and maybe the illness is the reason.

Every team usually leaves a full back or wingback as the deepest player when they have an attacking corner. The centre backs go forward for it, as they are the biggest aerial threat on pretty much every team.

It wasn't anything to do with who we left back for the first goal. Bellegarde bottled the header with Paqueta on the edge of the West Ham area which sprung a break. If he had won that header or even challenged more effectively, then Paqueta wouldn't have been running at Semedo with a 2 on 1. Dawson also had thr chance to trip Paqueta from behind before he played the pass on the break but didn't. Semedo held up Kudus and forced a shot from distance (which was unfortunate to go through his legs), which was all he could do as committing could lead to Kudus getting past him and being clean through. Bentley should have then saved the shot, it was really poor goal keeping. It wasn't even in the corner.

Not seen anyone mention the Coufal challenge on Bellegarde. He should have been sent off in the first half. Ref Watch on Sky Sports had Dermot Gallagher and all the pundits unanimously agree it should have been a red card. Once again, VAR doesn't intervene for us.

That was potentially a match changing decision that once again went against us.

He should have actually been sent of twice because the one he was yellow carded for was actually worthy of a red too.
Strange that such a hard man as him also went down screaming like a stuck pig holding his face when the close up of the incident showed it was an arm across his chest - horrible atrtitude for a player

Yeah Should defo have been a red

I did say earlier that the ref was weak, having seen those challenges again, he definitely was.
Two more VAR decisions or non decisions have gone against us again.
I am pretty certain that the other way round they would have gone the other way.

Just seen that Jonzy from MolMix has died. He was one of the most prominent posters on there and was only posting about the game yesterday.

Oh man, hadn't read that. Obviously sudden. He was alright for the most part.

Sad to hear about Jonzy today. Someone I’ve known well for over 30 years. John had been on molmix pretty much from the beginning. He also appeared regularly on the radio WM phone in after the games and even did bits for talk radio. Yet bizarrely he stopped going to the games just before the Fosun era began. Spent many years refereeing in the Wolverhampton Sunday League and also did some U21 games in Premier League 2. Fair to say he was a guy that wound up everyone he knew from time to time but his heart was in the right place. I expect his funeral will be very well attended.

Sad to hear about Jonzy.

Evidently somewhat of a "marmite" character.

Evidently Wolves are poised to report financial losses of £65 million but will still target up to two new signings in the January transfer window...

Seems that a new centre forward will be the priority in January and being speculated that Sasa might be sold together with Fabio and Jonny leaving on loan

We definitely need a proper centre forward, someone to hold the ball and bring other players into the play.
Needs to be a goal scorer as well.
Any suggestions ?

Found him a bit hit and miss to be honest. Think he was one of the ones who likes 'single malt' and would post a lot when drinking, so could be overly defensive at times when someone replied to a one line, cliched post he'd made.

He was knowledgeable about referees though and a proper stalwart on the site. He's probably commented on pretty much every thread there for the last 15 years.

That's for last season. We still pass the FFP £105 million in losses with that.

20/21 = + £18m Profit

21/22 = -£47m Loss

22/23 = -£65m Loss

We are probably set to make a big profit this season with the £140 million in sales we have already made and reduction in wage bill. So could be set to actually spend this summer, as anything over a £7 million profit this season sees us as ok next year.

posted on 19/12/23

We should be ok to spend a small amount on transfers in Jan although the rumours of Sasa being offloaded suggests they’d want to keep the net outlay pretty low.

We will be in a better position in the summer with all the sales last summer. Although the profit will be eaten into partly by the fact the club have been borrowing more.

posted on 19/12/23

Sasa is not going to be keen on being offloaded. He has just spent a lot of money setting his wife up to run a coffee shop in Tettenhall village
