They were no-ones favourites to win it Being at home is literally the only thing they have going for them.
And they may still win it...
they used to have such a stacked team, who they got knocking about these days?

Only if they pay off the ref's they will. Or come up against Onana in the final

I was thinking the same thing when I was watching the game. I don't even recognize any of their players nowadays. Willy Boly and Nicola Pepe ain't going to win you much.
Tbf they were only good 4 a short period of time
Not traditional heavyweights

Aren't they out? Surely they're not going to be amongst the 4 third best place finishers. They have 3 points in 3 matches ffs. 1 win and 2 losses.
If Egypt lose and/or the other game is a draw then that is 1 below Cote d'Ivoire.
The most likely hopes are group E and F.
If SA avoid defeat and Mali beat Namibia as expected then that is one 3rd place below the Ivorians.
And in group F Morocco should beat Zambia and DR Congo should beat Tanzania which would be another 3rd place below Cote d'Ivoire.
A Cameroon draw or Gambia win 1-0 and that group is below as well.
Group D is the only one where 3rd is guaranteed to finish above the host nation.
2 points has been enough in this format before.

I do actually hope the ivoirians somehow make it to the round of 16. A tournament like this always loses a lot when the hosts are out in the group stages.
Can't see how they're favourites when there's the likes of Nigeria who are packed and Morocco who performed miracles in Qatar. Egypt and Senegal are both better too.
My kid brother played with Pablo Ganet at San Roque de Lepe a few years back
Looking good for Cote d'Ivoire now...

Incredible. This AFCON has been nothing short of amazing. So exciting and we're still in the group stages!

I always thought they were one of the traditional heavyweights of African footy
my first ever afcon was when Ivory coast won in 1992. Think games were on Screensport mostly. 11-10 pen shootout..
