Results against rivals

But then surely it’s better to beat the rest of the league, which we normally struggle to do, as that amounts more points.

Yes it’s great to beat rivals, especially title rivals, but we’ve beaten them over the years and not won the league.

I think that was before. With city in town now yoy have yo beat the rest and take at least half the points against ur rivals I feel.

Like I said, the quad attemp season, we failed to beat any of the other top 4 teams.

Seems quite obvious though. A team in the Europa League does well against other Europa League standard teams and below, and struggles against Champions League quality.

Beating the lesser teams can indeed get you a CL place if you beat all of them and avoid getting humiliated by the big teams, but once in the CL the team is likely to struggle as we have seen with United and Newcastle.

The aim for Liverpool should be a good run in the Europa, maybe make the semis and then just try qualify for it again via the league as would end up embarrassing the country if in the CL next season.

you can extend this to top half teams our record against the bottom half is all wins plus one draw to Luton away.

the scored against the top half doesn't cut it at all.

To be fair, haven’t City lost to Villa and Arsenal and drawn at home to Spurs.

If you lose it by a point or 2 it will be that game at Luton that killed you - no title side is failing to pick up 3 points their in my opinion, we beat them with 10 men - 9 if you include Richarlisons form at the time

Hhm.good.point. they also drew to lfc

Exactly that. There isn’t really a standout team this year, all have deficiencies, and that’s what’s going to make it such a thrilling title race to the end.

I think City might go on a long winning run now, will be interesting to see if Liverpool can maintain the pace as they have done a couple of times previously.

Arsenal certainly won’t, they will wobble away to a couple of mid table scrappers and that will be that. Spurs and Villa are nowhere near the top 2 teams level and the rest of the league is mostly either a joke or teams with no financial muscle.

The biggest concern would be City have been well below par this season. The consistency looks to be coming now, I'd be surprised if we had a title race of note by the end of March

I think the away games left are key.

We have to go to Everton, Man United, Villa and West Ham.
City have to go Anfield and Spurs.
Arsenal have to go City, Spurs and Man United where they normally struggle, so lots of points to be dropped yet. Throw in the European and fa cup games and it’s anyone’s atm.

City have had an unbelievably easy run of league games tbf, 6 wins and a draw against Newcastle and 6 of the bottom 7. Doesn't get much harder until the Manc Derby either.
Does mean they have a difficult run in, but they should be a few clear by then.

City have won the last five in the league. Their longest winning run under Pep is 17 games I think.

There's 15/16 games left. This title race is still open

posted on 6/2/24

You think City win their game in hand and they go top - and they’ve only just got KDB and Haaland back.

Their title rivals are involved in as many cups if not more than them also.

For me they just take it now, only question is how close Liverpool can run it

Ange also got a draw at the Etihad with a makeshift side a couple of months ago.

We just tend to do well against Peps City - no need to be bitter about it

Dont think it reallt matters that much who we drop points too. Before the arsenal game our record against the top 8 wasnt great and we were still top of the league.

We have 4 games coming up in the league before city that, on paper, if you want to win a league, we should be winning. If we do then we will be set up very nicely for the city game.

Its how we react to that defeat that matters.

Hello. If you lose to a title rival, that title rival gets the points. Those points get added to their total points which is used to rank teams in order of most points to least points. The team with the most points wins the league.
