Based on these figures Cfc will be under real pressure over the next two FFP/ PSR compliance windows.
The club will have to improve income and reduce costs.
Closing the deficit by at least 100m pers season 23/24 & 24/25.
This will require improved sponsorship & marketing revenue, losses on players contracts to be kept to a minimum and pure profit play sales.
Entry into Europe will mean any long term amortization contracts 5 years + will have to revised to 5 years.
This is calculated to increase operating amortization costs by 30m per season should CFC enter European competition.
Is it even viable for CFC to play in Europe?
Increasing the compliance deficit by 30m .
Getting the 5/6 players who are surplus to the 25 man squad off the books will reduce the operating costs by 25m+
Loosing big money on players like :
Cucuerralla, Sterling, Lukaku, Mudryk, will not be possible, as it definitely would push the operating deficit beyond a figure that the club could cover.
Loans or Saudi may be the only solution for these players.
how have the shown compliance for the 2020/21 - 22/23 period if they have posted losses of £90m and £120m.
The year before was £150m although probably covid affected...but still don't see how it adds up. They must have been given concessions for the impact of sanctions on their 21/22 accounts.
But for this season they'll need to show massive profit to remain compliant. and while you could figure that their additional spending/amortisation is more than wiped out by their player trading profit, that still does not necessarily mean they'll turn a profit AND this season will see 50m and more not earned from Europe (UCL QFs last season)
Dont forget the laughable situation that Chelsea will be in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup featuring 32 teams and handing out prize money of about £50m just for getting there.
Im sure how it works, ?
I assume the 3 year FFP cycle began 22/23 as it was the ownerships first season.
? will the loss figures for 23/24 need to stay under the 105m ceiling for the whole period? 22/23/ 23/24 24/25.
22/23 loss 90m = 15m loss buffer for 23/24 or can the loss figure be greater for 23/24.
After which in the 24/25 compliance return the whole cycle figure must not go above the 105m 3 year loss allowance?
If Saudi don't come for your players then you're facked. No way you make 100m profit per year. Even if that was possible you'd need something like at least a decade to get there.
Abramovic really facked you in the ass by selling to Boehly.
Ok thank you very enlightening
My "back of a fagg packet" calculations have Chelsea needing to make of profit of at least £75m this season and allowing for everything they are probably £40-£50m short of that so far and needing to raise this through sales by July, and ideally an academy "pure profit player".
The hardship comes next season as, without European money again (most likely) the ability to raise money through sales will be significantly diminished as who will there be left to sell? James?
Yes 24/25 may well be a crunch point.

have been discussions over some fairly large numbers potentially (Riyadh Air for example) but who knows whether any potential deals are underpinned only by European Qualification.
Yes, this is another possible factor, mid table value sponsorship!

No idea where we actually stand this year without access to the figures however 40/50m mentioned is virtually covered for this year if indeed, player sales are, required to make up shortfall.
Hall is to Toons is 28m minimum, 35 with add ons, imagine Ian Maatsen will also be included at 35m or so if the need arises.
As you say the year after that looks more likely to have to be addressed, sponsorship will be interesting - have been discussions over some fairly large numbers potentially (Riyadh Air for example) but who knows whether any potential deals are underpinned only by European Qualification.
Commercial/Financial side is meant to be what our owners are good at so time will tell I guess lol.
Also imagine there will be additional sponsorship opportunities from the World Club Cup down the line on top of the 50m for turning up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the brand has taken a hit though, which makes these sorts of deals even harder to get done
The owners have fecked us. Could’ve carried on spending £150m every other transfer window whilst buying elite and young talent but no let’s spend a billion on youth players and put the club in a terrible position financially.
I don’t know what the club wants regarding European football. We need the money from those competitions but we also don’t want to enter it and get some hefty fines.
Yeah, it is a mess, the only way out of it is through results on the pitch over the next 2/3 seasons.
At this point I dont think it is possible to rationalise how it is going to go with the ownership over the next 5 seasons.
TLL, what do you think about bringing Lukaku back , making peace with him and trying to get a tune out of him for the remaining two years of his contract?
Personally, imo if he had been in this season we more than likely would have had at least another 6/9 points.

Don't suppose Spurs are invited though
Ifarka - We’d be top 4 if Lukaku was here. He’s a very good striker. But he wants nothing to do with us. So he can feck off. I think Roma will sign him anyway. They have a £30m buy option at the end of the season.
yeah, it will be good to get him off the books.
17m p season wages.
If goes in the next window , he stands the club in 40m (2x 20m Amortization payments)

Fack off is he good...he's a lazy fat feck with a poor attitude
It will be interesting to see the full set of accounts when released, although in part it's next year's accounts that will be more telling with the full year impact to our player purchases and no champs league. It's clear that Boehly has seen player sales as a significant revenue stream for the club; and we already have 55m for Mount for next years account in the bag. Lukaku will be sold as his value was impaired and therefore will be pure profit from accounting perspective, and a big chunk off the wage bill. We have a few others. Also I believe £40m or so of the costs are spent on the women's team and other initiatives which are deducted from FFP.
All in all lots of different elements and no idea how it will all play out next year. Over the longer run it does feel like performances have to improve to avoid lasting damage e.g. get back into Europe
For us yes but in Italy he’s been killing it. He’s a man child. Needs to feel that love from the fans/manager.
The other thing that helps next year's accounts is that I think we took out around 60-70m of player salaries since June 2023 - around 55m is havertz, kante, koulibaly and Azpi alone. Then the savings from Pulisic, Loftus Cheek, Mount, Auba, were partly offset by the new signings since e.g. Caicedo. Further half year savings from Felix and Jorginho
Hi Jesus,
The issues are
(1)The overall combined operating cost's of club
(2)The clubs reduced limited income at a sub top 4 level club
(3) The annual amortization will increase + 25/30m if the club plays in Europe as all contracts will amortize over 5 years. ( The current published accounts for 22/23 & 23/24 are based upon a significant % of the contracts amortizing between 6 / 8 years)
(4) At least 7 players ( some of the clubs biggest earners) are on contracts that the club would struggle to move on should they want to sell them. The issue is the club currently dose not have the financial wriggle room to take significant losses on these players 25m / 50m each, so the club and the players are wedded to each other for the foreseeable future until the players fee and wages become manageable.
Enzo,Caicedo,Mudryk,Cucuerella,Sterling,Lukaku,
Forfana.
Lukaku will never be a pure profit asset unless he sells for over 40m ( 2 x 20m amortization repayments) and the buying club honour his 34m ( 2 seasons) contract.
(5) The club cannot easily take on new players as the club has a fixed number of fundable contracts in place ( 25 man squad) to increase this would undo the 30% wage reductions that have achieved within the 25 man rosta.
Currently the club is meeting the shortfall in operating costs through selling players, but this is becoming more difficult as the club now finds itself in a position where it will face a situation where it may have to sell pure profit players to meet FFP/PSR or improve the squad, but also simultaneously weakening the squad ( Gallagher) ect.
All of this would not be an issue if the squad was now after 2 seasons under the new ownership fit for purpose as a top 6 side looking to push on to top 4.
It is not, due to the financial straight jacket the club finds itself in which the owners have created, it will be a slow process for the club to progress the squad to a top6 > 4 level. The level which improve the clubs income to a point where it will not over reliant on player sales to be FFP compliant and improve the squad.
In conclusion, as you have rightly said only results on the pitch will be the way out of this in the short/ medium term.
