Why would Diomande be most of our summer budget? How on earth have you came to that conclusion
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because Clement said it himself
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Where did he say that? Haven’t seen that, and would be surprised if that’s the case. And makes no sense putting a £4m buy option on for Cortes if that’s the case

We’ve consistently spent around £20m every year. Focus from CFO last month seemed to be on cost cutting and continued investment, so would seem investing in players on lower wages would be on cards given the players that will be leaving (Roofe, Jack, Barisic at least). Never mind anyone he get cash or off the books out of Hagi, Lammers, Matondo, Davies etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He said it at the Souness night last week. Spoke about having to be creative and this was one way to get Diomande in now via an initial loan given the outlay last summer.

I'm sure there will be some other bits and pieces to spend particularly if we move guys on but would be miles off enough to get Sima or anyone like that in for the figures quoted.

Obviously I expect CL entry changes that a little.

Brighton have a 1 year extension option on Sima so reality is he won't be out of contact at the end of next season.

I've also seen people close to Brighton say they have no desire to sell him and that they have a plan for him like they do with most prospects they sign.

They knew when they signed Sima they were taking a bit of a punt on someone who had never come through an acedemy or given any real coaching. He had 1 year of professional football in his locker. They took a bit of a punt on raw potential and have tried to organise a series of loans for him to get more games at different levels and environments before seeing whether he's good enough to play in the Prem. And if he's not they hope he will have played enough and made enough of an impact to get their money back.

I think we can probably forget about Sima for now. Unless we win the league and qualify for the CL most of our summer budget has already been spent on Diomande anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
they could but they may also not want an unhappy player who doesnt want to be there. Its reported that Sima is very interested in joining us on a permanent deal. He isnt gonna get into that Brighton team so they may well be happy to just cut their losses, rather than have to pay him for an additional year. I agree I think he will only be signed if we win the league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course but they aren't going to cut a loss of £7.5m just because it suits Rangers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
they paid 7m for him so not a loss if they sell him at 7m again. if they have no other offers and they dont want an unhappy player on the books that is unlikely to play for them then they may have no choice to accept the offer of 5/6m if thats what we bid. Sima could say the only team I want to play for is Ranger he has been assured we will look to get him for that 5/6m area.

All ifs and buts, I suspect we wont bid anymore than 6m time will tell if that would be enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We're not spending £6m or £7m on Sima though. We can't even lock down Lundstram on a new deal at the moment.

How much less would you have available to spend if you get into CL?

We’d make a lot more if we got in the CL over the Europa next year given how our 10 year coefficient will have changed. Not surprising that has a big impact when you step up to the CL.

Plus if we get in, likely means Celtic don’t, which would increase our earnings further, so in that case we’d make a huge amount more than we actually made in the CL last year.

The CL is revamped next season too so its a new format with different earnings.

I think Rangers stand to earn more than Celtic if we qualify based on the coefficient of both clubs where there is now more reward for performance than by associated performance.

Financially it would be a huge step forward if Rangers made the CL next season and perhaps then the budget for players will look different.

No idea how it will change but we were at or very close to the bottom in the CL last year on coefficient because earnings were based on 10 year coefficient.

That was the main reason Celtic earned 9m more than us from the CL last year. Small part of that due to TV pool though.

Hearts will remain the same.

Without wanting to open that can, should be easy to now compare Rangers earnings this year vs last using Google given we topped the group which was my point…..

Just thinking. Wonder if they’ll cut their own allocation due to their fans throwing a bottle opener at Shankland.
