Never looked like scoring, Slabhead, Watkins & Chilwell were dire

I didn-t think Chilwell was that bad apart from the two shots and the bad cross - he actually defened well.

Maguire and Dunk are not even Premier League level. Gallagher has a big heart but absolutely no technical ability. Gordon, Bowen and Watkins looked lightweight. We can't win anything with those six players.

This is a pointless thread really, as opinions on players would always wildly diverge with every fan. Some players I find overrated are players I rate very highly, but STILL think many ridiculously overhype them. Scholes is my number one. It's not as bad as it used to be but the amount of guff I used to hear from Man U fans about him about a decade ago was deeply irritating - especially when they act like he was somehow leagues above Gerrard and Lampard. Modric is my number one in modern football. Great balance and lovely technique, but far too much credit for too little.

The first comment on this thread mentions Fabregas for example - a forgotten player who hardly anyone talks about (meaning he's actually underrated) - but who I wouldn't have swapped for anyone in his position in his Arsenal prime. There is no reconciling wildly diverging opinion like that. You can call just about anyone up to Messi "overrated" for whatever reason.

This is all on him. He’s got unreal talent on his hand but somehow England are so reliant on individual moments. No Saka/Kane and England look toothless.
Not only is he weak tactically, it gets worse with his safety first approach against every opposition.
Still hopefully for euros, but it’ll be the players who’ll take him there, he hasn’t got the skillset to win tight games

Kane is well out of it all.....gone back to Munich to treat his ankle.

With Southgate in charge I'm not sure why we are favourites?

Southgate should have been moved on after the last tournament. He's had 3 chances now and yet hasn't made the most of any of them. One in which we reached a final at home and were leading up to half time, and if we couldn't win it from there then clearly he's never going to win it.

Don't despair, OP. This is exactly how I felt about Spain back in 2006 after France dumped us out of the World Cup. I promised never to watch them again until they overcame the QFs of a major tournament.

Southgate seems fiercely results-oriented and risk averse, but England has so much talent right now that they're more than capable of winning a major tournament by minimising the errors, and hoping your quality makes the difference up the other end.

Possibly partly because the best teams in Europe are going through transitions themselves, like France, Germany and Holland.

They have come down to the England levels. However, this level is really poor.
